Rev. John F. Kasten Jr.

John Kasten Obituary

Rev. John F. Kasten Jr. went to his eternal resting place March 13, 2009, at Episcopal Church Home. Known to his family and friends as "Jack", he was a gentle and caring man who was loved by all. A native of Richmond, Va., he was a World War II Navy veteran, an electrical engineer for the Virginia Power Co., a certified Master Gardener, which was the joy of his retirement life. Jack was an Ordained Minister of the United Church of Christ. Jack served as Associate Pastor of St. Paul's U.C.C., W. Mich. St., Evansville, Ind., fourteen years of his thirty-two active years of ministry.

Jack is survived by his wife, the former Cynthia Barton Kasten; sons, John F. "Rick" Kasten, III (Laurie), Bart Kasten (Jennifer); daughter, Melanie Kasten-Krause (Harold); his brother, Rev. Daniel R. Kasten Sr. (Dorothy); and eight grandchildren.

His service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, at St. Andrew United Church of Christ, 2608 Browns Lane, Louisville, Ky. Burial will take place at a later date, in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Louisville, Ky. (502) 451-4420

Melanie,
I am sorry to learn of your Dad's passing. He was a good man who touched hundreds, if not thousands, of lives spreading The Word. I have fond memories of high school Retreats, Youth Fellowship and, yes, even Confirmation Classes.
