Mary Hayes Pritchett, 95, of Evansville passed away at 5:15 pm, Monday, January 25, 2016 at Signature Healthcare of Newburgh.
Mary Hayes Pritchett was born January 16, 1921, on a farm outside Oakland City, Indiana, to Charles M. Hayes and Mabel Grace Herman Hayes.
Mary worked as the secretary for the Treasurer of Oakland City College (now University) where she studied. It was there she met her husband, William Thornton Pritchett. They married in 1940 and were married for 62 years. Mary also worked at D and W Antiques in later years.
Mary was a loving and giving wife, mother, sister, daughter, mother-in-law, aunt and a friend to many. She had an infectious laugh that all enjoyed hearing. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing the piano and traveling. Throughout her husband's career at Central and Harrison High Schools she attended and supported many school activities. In past years, she was an active member of Three Arts and DAR, served as a Cub Scout den mother, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, Herman Hayes and Charles Hayes; 3 sisters, Isabelle Fowler, Ruthanna Gilpatrick, and Louise Hayes; and 2 daughters-in-law, Donna Perkins Pritchett and Kathy Kifer Pritchett.
She is survived by 4 sons, Thornton (Tad) Pritchett (Dee) of Olathe KS, William Pritchett of Sarasota, FL, Kurt Pritchett of Evansville, John Pritchett of Evansville; one daughter Sue (Susie) Templeton (Bill) of Chocowinity, NC. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation is Sunday, January 31, 2016, at 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm with a Private Family service at 3:30 pm at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville with Reverend Dr. Linda Parker officiating. Burial will be Private.
Donations may be made in her memory to Oakland City University, 138 N. Lucretia St., Oakland City, IN 47660 or flowers are appreciated.
