Peggy Brooks Obituary

Peggy Ann (Bretz) Brooks

Evansville, Ind. - Peggy Ann (Bretz) Brooks died Tuesday, December 8, 2020, in the loving care of family and hospice services.

She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 21, 1938, the daughter of the late Charles and Bonnie Bretz.

She is survived by her daughter, Renita Brooks Raisor; her son-in-law, Dr. Michael Raisor; her grandson, Harrison Raisor; her son, Dr. Charles T. Brooks; her daughter-in-law, Mary Brooks; and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her younger sister, Charlotte, in 1974, and her younger brother, Arthur, in 1992.

Valedictorian of her Senior Class, she graduated from Bristow High School in April 1957 and earned a Secretarial Degree from Lockyear's Business College in October 1958. From 1960 to her retirement in 2002 - when she began caring for her beloved grandson, Harrison - she humbly served others, mostly in schools and churches either as an employee or a volunteer, offering patience, empathy, and kindness to students and others who grew to know her as someone who, when they came to her troubled, would gently guide them toward honesty as the solution. She served as a hospice volunteer, as a servant-leader in spiritual retreats, traveled on church missions to Honduras and Israel, and was active in the churches of her brother-in-law and his wife, Rev. Dr. Charles H. "Bud" and Jewell Brooks ("Buddy and Lou"). "Kindest" and "sweetest" are the words people usually used when describing our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, family member, and friend.

Due to the current pandemic restrictions, a private Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:30 P.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 East Diamond Avenue, Evansville, Indiana, 47711. The service will be live-streamed at www.browningfuneral.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linda E. White Hospice House, 611 Harriet Street, Evansville, Indiana, 47710.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I, Send Me. Isaiah 6:8
