Robert Benjamin Obituary

Robert 'Bob' E. Benjamin
Evansville, Ind.
Robert "Bob" E. Benjamin, 90, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Columbia Healthcare Center.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for 38 years. He worked at the Evansville Shipyard for three years helping to build LSTs as a pipefitter, and then later retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local #20, after 60 years. For 50 years he enjoyed fishing and camping at Scales Lake. He was proud to have visited 48 states with his wife. He enjoyed playing cards at Washington Square Mall and watching the horses run at Ellis Park.
Bob's family extends a special thanks to his daughter, Nancy Osborn, who devoted the last two years caring for him, and to the staffs at Columbia Healthcare Center and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, G. Jean Benjamin; daughter, Judith; brothers, John and Gene; and his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Dwight) Osborn; grandchildren, Tina (Gregory) Harlow, Rick Cowe, Teresa Gunn and Rob (Amanda) Martin; great-grandchildren, Charish (Josh) Draper, Melanie Gunn, Danielle and Erin Harlow, Drake and Tiffany Duncan, and Alexis and Madison Martin; great-great-grandchildren, Christian, Brionna, Brooklyn, Aaliyah, Nicholas and Amelia; sister, Patricia; and brothers, Jack and Don.

Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry Nancy to hear about your loss. When Momma died, it was so very hard and as old as our parents were, it stings all the more. We kept them for this long and it's harder to let go because they have been with us for ages and ages. It was just like Momma would stay forever and taking care of her,the more intense. I'm sure the last two years have been hectic for you. You get closer and it consumes you and all your time, you are just constantly thinking of what they need done or things that will make them happy and find ways to make them smile. For all the hard work, I hope peacefulness envelopes you and you can adjust in your own time and find happiness that he had the best care and life. My heart hurts for you and your family. May God Bless you and carry you while in his loving arms and the angels surround you in your times of need. God Bless and with love,Kim Snow Abshagen
