He retired in 1987 from Whirlpool Corporation after 39 years. He served in World War II as a medic at the Army 27th General Hospital, both in the Philippine Islands and Japan. He obtained the rank of 4th Technician and was awarded a Bronze Star. He retired from the Indiana National Guard as master sergeant, completing 44 years of service for his country.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth (Cornwall) Maynard, on May 13, 1985, two infant sons and one grandson, Robert Andrew Maynard.
He is survived by his second wife, Dorothy; son, Robert L. Maynard and his wife, Judy, of Newburgh; son, Randy M. Maynard of Evansville; daughter, Rebecca S. Brown and her husband, Robert Brown, of Gladstone, Missouri; son, Russell W. Maynard of Newburgh; stepchildren, Brenda Young, Richard Young and Tom Young; 11 grandchildren, James L. Maynard, Rachel White, Melissa Maynard, Kevin Brown, Eric Brown, Leslie Maynard, Robert A. Maynard, Michael Maynard, Crystal Young, Jason Young and Lacie Young; and six great-grandchildren, Luke and Jasmyn Maynard, Alyssa White and Izabella Darr, and Ellie and Carson Brown.
Services 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 23, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to time of service at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Simpson Chapel.
The family wishes to thank the Visiting Nurse Association and Charlier Hospice Center for their excellent care of Robert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Charlier Hospice Center, 610 E. Walnut St., Evansville, Indiana 47713.
