Charles Morrell Obituary

Charles Richard Samuel Morrell, "Charlie", passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3rd, surrounded by his family after a brave battle with cancer. Born and raised in Sheffield, England, he attended Birkdale School and Rugby School until 1996. After a gap year spent in Hong Kong, he came to visit his sister at The Ohio State University. In 1997, he attended his first Ohio State football game with her and her sorority sisters. Brainwashed by scarlet and gray, there was no going back. He attended Ohio State where he was a Sigma Chi, earning the nickname "Goodtime Charlie". He graduated in 2002 with an English degree. Charlie worked at the university's newspaper, The Lantern, for many years until moving to Florida in 2009. Although he loved the sunshine, he loved his family more. He moved back to Ohio in 2012, living in Upper Arlington and then Marion. With the support of his IBH family, he recently celebrated 5 ½ years of sobriety, of which he was most proud. He was the manager for Habitat for Humanity Restore in Marion and will be greatly missed by all there. He is survived by his parents, Richard Morrell (Ann) and Joyce Devine, his sisters, Jennifer (Andy) Grooms and Caroline (Chris) Lane and nephews, Jack, Dylan, Brady, Tate, Edward, and niece Grace. Charlie was special to everyone he met whether it was a bagger at Kroger, or a first cousin once removed. His dry humor and quick wit made instant connections with people from all walks of life. He was an avid reader, luxury car expert, self-proclaimed designer fashion icon, and walking encyclopedia for random trivia. He was a loyal friend, thoughtful listener, loving son, caring brother, and hilarious uncle. He was everyone's "best mate". There are no words clever enough or deep enough to capture the essence of Charlie. If love could have healed him, he would have lived forever. The first time I met Charlie was at the ReStore. We had been having issues with an overhead door and placed a maintenance call. In walks Charlie later and I proceeded to explain the issue. I even suggested opening the overhead door to see the issue which Charlie obliged and as the door shut we stood in silence. After a few minutes Charlie said I see you have an issue and in my embarrassment I realized he wasn´t the repair man. We laughed for years about his side talent of being "The Door Guy". I share this story because that was Charlie. Charlie was always asking "What can I do to help?" His smile, his humor ( the idea of marketing a furniture load he helped assemble as built by an "English Craftsman") and his kindness could turn any bad day into a blessing for his coworkers and the many customers he had built friendships with. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Charlie brother it´s Jack. Geez, it went by so fast. We were both sober. We would laugh about everything. He was always talking about his nephews. He was so proud of them. just think it was so unfair for him to be sober and that to happen to him. You passed on me and my wife´s anniversary. I´ll never ever forget you.

Charlie was my friend, I really enjoyed spending a lot of time with him during my college years and am truly honored to have had someone like Charlie in my life. I am very sad about all of this. He will be greatly missed.
