Charles Ratliff Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chuck, who left this world on March 21, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. He was a man of passion, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lorraine, along with his children Rita Taylor, Amy Righter, Judy Ratliff, Tonya (Rodney) Drown, Robert (Melanie) Hummel, Jr., and Amanda (Joe) Williams, and also Leo Navia, our exchange student. He enjoyed his twenty-seven grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren, as well as siblings Janice Sprung and Jim Prete. His legacy of love and laughter will live on through them, in every story shared and every moment of kindness passed forward.
Racing was more than just a hobby for Chuck; it was a lifelong love that fueled his spirit. Whether behind the wheel, working under the hood, or cheering from his recliner, he found joy in every race, sharing his enthusiasm with anyone willing to listen. But as much as he loved the thrill of the track, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. Chuck had an unbelievable Hot Wheels collection that he enjoyed sharing with grandchildren what a great way to remember him by.
Chuck was an incredible husband, dad, and grandpa-a man who led with his heart and always put his loved ones first. He was a steady presence, a gentle teacher, and the first to lend a hand without expecting anything in return. Chuck gave selflessly, led with his heart, and always made sure his family knew they were cherished. His wisdom, laughter, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Chuck had a gift for storytelling-his tales could bring laughter, spark memories, and make any moment brighter. He had a way of making people feel welcome, understood, and loved. No matter the situation, he could put a smile on your face, whether through a joke, a wild racing story, or a simple act of kindness.
Though he has left an empty space in our hearts, his love and legacy will continue to live on in the stories we share, the lessons he taught us, and the unconditional love he gave so freely.
We will miss him every day, but we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, even catching a seat in the fastest car for one more race.
Rest easy, my love, Dad, Grandpa, and friend. We will keep the engine running for you.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held from 1-4 p.m., on Sunday April 27, 2025, at Republic American Legion 112 Washington Street Republic, Ohio 45867. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join us in remembering a truly remarkable man. The Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home in Bloomville is assisting the family with their arrangements.
