Davina Renee Brogan-Akers, 61, died early Saturday, October 11, 2025 at her home from a recently diagnosed aggressive cancer and a years-long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
She was born on December 3, 1963, the first-born child of the late Denis “Denny” Brogan and Barbara (Lawson) Brogan who survives. Davina was proud to have been raised in Bucyrus where lifelong friendships were made and where she kept close ties with family and friends. She played volleyball and softball at Bucyrus High School and graduated in 1982. She then moved to the Columbus area where she graduated from Columbus State and worked in nursing. While working for a nursing home in Dublin, a brash and bold maintenance man at the facility named Dewey Akers took notice of her and whistled from down the hall. After a seven-year courtship, Davina and Dewey were married on September 12, 1992. Her compassion and patience made her a favorite nurse of even the grumpiest patients. She worked at Mount Carmel West for two years and Riverside Hospital for 30 years when her Parkinson’s left her unable to continue working.
Outside of work, Davina’s passions were her family and friends. Her smile and laughter were always with her. She visited countless wineries, loved sports, and always had the Bratwurst Festival circled on her calendar. Her vacations were spent chasing sunshine and music with memorable trips to Mexico, North Carolina wine country, Florida, and concerts among others. The many stores she frequented, both in person and online, are going to miss her as she was an avid shopper, purchasing Christmas and birthday gifts year-round. If a game wasn’t on her tv, a Hallmark movie was being watched. She loved being in Bucyrus often and held memberships at the VFW and Moose Lodge.
Davina is survived by husband, Dewey Akers; mother, Barb Brogan; children, Devan Akers (David Snyder) and Dalton (Addi) Akers; sister, Kala Brogan and her son Zaden; sister-in-law, Claudia Dentzer; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
In addition to her dad, she was preceded in death by brother, Darin Todd Brogan and sister, Holly Leann Brogan.
All services for Davina will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16 from 4-7 pm. Her funeral will be held Friday at 11:00 am with Debbie Bennett of Bucyrus UMC officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made payable to Michael J. Fox Foundation (for Parkinson’s research) or American Cancer Society. These gifts can be given at the funeral home and memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Davina’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
