Dorcas Yvonne Dawson Denham, 90, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15,2025, surrounded by her family.
Born in Newcomerstown, Ohio to the late Arthur and Eva (Lacey) Dawson, Dorcas graduated from Newcomerstown High School with the class of 1953. Dorcas lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and heartfelt service. She was known for her gentle spirit, steady presence, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.
Dorcas dedicated many years of her life to serving the Bucyrus community through her work at Bucyrus Community Hospital and the Crawford County Council on Aging, where her compassion and dedication left a lasting impact. She was honored as Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women of Bucyrus in recognition of her professional excellence and community involvement.
Her commitment to service extended beyond her career. Dorcas served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, guiding and mentoring young scouts. Additionally, she proudly served for many years as the Director of the Bratwurst Festival Queens Contest, helping organize and lead one of Bucyrus’ most cherished traditions and positively influencing the lives of countless young women.
Dorcas was preceded in death by her beloved husband, G. Robert Denham; son, Matthew Dawson Denham; parents; and sisters, Marjorie Sinden and Bernadine Studd. She faced life’s challenges with grace and courage and remained a steadfast source of love and strength to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Kathy) Denham; granddaughters, Heather (Michael) Desguin and Christina (Isaac) Engelhorn; and great-grandchildren, Lillian and Jackson Engelhorn, and Maxwell Desguin, all of whom brought her immeasurable pride and joy.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Carlisle Place and Avita Hospice for their care.
Calling hours will be held at the Wise Funeral Home in Bucyrus on Friday, August 22 from 5-7 pm. A private graveside service will be held at West Lawn Cemetery in Newcomerstown, Ohio, where Dorcas will be laid to rest with her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the area Boy Scouts, or the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, organizations that reflect Dorcas’ lifelong values of compassion, service, and care for others. Contributions can be mailed to Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
