Robert Nunnally Obituary

Robert Lee "Bob" Nunnally, Jr., 68, of Westerville, OH, went to setup the stage for his heavenly celebration on December 8, 2024. He was born on August 28, 1956, to the late Robert Lee Nunnally, Sr. and the late Edith Russell, in Marion, OH. Bob's voice and charisma has maintained a strong presence in the central Ohio area for over 40 years. He joined the WNCI radio station in 1977 (known as "Big Bob" or "Large Robert") and went on to deejay for WSNY/Sunny 95 in 1983, working there for 14 years. On the radio waves, Bob served as music director and assistant programming director. His presence on WCMH4 began as a substitute weathercaster (1994 – 1997) produced for Columbus' WB affiliate. Bob became a full-time weathercaster for WCMH4 in late 1997. Bob stayed with WCMH4 for over twenty-five years. Although Bob left Marion, Ohio to pursue his broadcasting career, he continued to serve the Marion community in multiple capacities. He was the emcee for the Miss Heart of Ohio Contest, Miss Teen Pageant, Marion Popcorn Festival and in the past, was on site at WMRN to welcome "Buckeye Chuck" on Groundhog Day. His popularity (with over 4,600 Facebook followers) ensured any event he participated in would be a great success. Giving back to the community he so appreciated, Bob served on the board of several local charitable organizations, including the YMCA, Arthritis Foundation, Life Care Alliance and the Jingle Bell Run. In his free time, Bob was an avid movie goer (never missing an action hero movie), comic book lover, and music lover. Earlier in Bob's life he was a talented sketch artist, known for sketching comic book heroes and creating his own comic strip featuring a character he created as a child, which he named "Packy". He also was an advocate for animal adoption, partnering with many animal adoption agencies throughout central Ohio. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Pauline Jones. He is survived by his Goddaughter, Sarah Williams, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Visiting hours will be held at Dayspring Wesleyan Church, 2431 Marion-Mt. Gilead Rd., Marion, Ohio on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 1:00PM followed by a celebration of life at 3:00PM. I was wondering what had happened to this gentle giant, so so sad to learn of his passing. I will so miss him I always knew I could trust his forecast. And if not for him I would never have found my lifelong friend, Bubba. His segments on forever home led me to adopt my bestest friend ever. Bob was like a member of the family. Am sure many folks feel the same. Rest in peace in the arms of our Father God.

Robertito. Little Big Bob. That was the beginning of a fifty-year-long friendship. Bob stood out, no matter where he demonstrated his enormous talents and creativity. The collection of his senior project writings for my Spanish class at Harding, illustrated with his original character´s antics, along with hand-drawn birthday and Christmas cards, remain my cherished keepsakes.

A few of many good memories: he included me in Halloween parties, invited me to visit the TV station, treated me to lunch often, and sent birthday flowers or sweets every year.

Bob was the best of friends, a kind man. He spoke to millions through media his entire adult life, but made a one-on-one conversation feel like you were the only person in the room. He gave of himself like that to many, I´m sure! I loved him and will miss him deeply.

Bobby and I were inseparable during our high school years. We were both heavily involved with the school radio station, "Room 101". He spent many after school hours in our home until one of us took him home to Cass Avenue. Neither the house, nor the street name, exist today.

He took an interest in every one of my siblings, sometimes assigning nicknames to them. Mom would typically do a roast for Sunday dinner. She would put the leftover roast in the blender with some mayo and olives to make a sandwich spread for us to take for our lunches at school. She quickly learned that she needed to accommodate a 6th sibling: Bobby.

As a teenager, he played his cards close to his chest. Until I read his obituary. I never knew that I was born a year and a week after me.

Several years ago, dad was in Riverside and things weren´t looking good. Bob showed up. A doctor came in to talk to us. Because of HIPAA, he had to vet everyone in the room or ask us to wait in the hall. When he pointed at Bob, mom said, "family". Good job, mom! We´ve considered him family for decades. There is not a surviving member of my family who wouldn´t say, "we love Bob".

But there are scores of people across central Ohio that would make that same statement.

I came to Marion to deal with mom´s estate. Coincidentally, it was the date of the eclipse too. I had my dog with me (who passed away a couple of weeks before we lost Bob) and stopped by his house to spend some time with him. He was smaller than me, in stature and weight. If we went to school together, let that sink in!

I think his body was unable to recover from the chemo he endured. He was never ever to thrive after chemo. I think chemo kills more people than cancer.

Rise above us, Bobby. You left your mark here. You exemplified humanity as it should be. You were loved by many. And now, you are a saint, alongside my precious wife. I look forward to our reunion. Amen!

I went to school with Bob years ago and reconnected with him about twelve years ago. I always met up with Bob when I came back to Ohio to visit and we also texted and called each other. I really miss him but I know he is with Coco now. I pray for his family and friends and may they have peace knowing Bob is at rest. Love you Bob.

My sympathy goes to the family for Bob´s passing. I did not known him personally, but was able to hear his friendly voice regularly on WCNI, Sunny 95 and then later watched him report and forecast the weather on television. I would also see him regularly at the YMCA in the mid 1980s when I worked at the reception desk. I gasped when I saw his name in the obituaries. What enormour loss to his family and the entire community. I will never forget him. Sincerely, Lori D.
