Violet Mutters Obituary

Violet Mae Mutters, age 86, of Hilliard and formerly of Delaware and Marion, OH, died peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the Darby Glenn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. On May 16, 1939, Violet was born in Marion, Ohio, one of eight children of the late Clifford Emmett Long and Elizabeth Mae (Miller) Long. She graduated from Marion Harding High School. On January 26, 1957, Violet married the love of her life, William Ferguson "Bill" Mutters Jr. Together they shared 43 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2000. Violet and Bill quickly started their family, and Violet stayed at home to care for her husband and children. Once her children were in school, she went to work as a cashier at Kroger's, where she worked for 31 years until her retirement. She also served as a union representative during her time as an employee at Kroger's. Later in life, Violet moved to Delaware, Ohio, where she was a member of the High Point Nazarene Church and where she was active in the Delaware Senior Center. Two of Violet's favorite pastimes were playing BINGO with her friends from the Senior Center, and making costume jewelry to jazz up her outfits. She is survived by two children: Forest "Don" (Pamela) Mutters of Hilliard, and Pamela Sue (Anthony) Pless of Lynchburg, VA; three grandchildren: Forest Donald "DJ" (Erin) Mutters Jr., Kylee (Dan) Cain, and Emily Pless; two great-granddaughters: Julia Mutters and Chloe Cain; three sisters: Patricia Gruber, Marsha Lee and Melinda Zehendner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Including her husband and parents, Violet was preceded in death by two sons: Thomas Allen Mutters and William Ferguson "Billy" Mutters III; two brothers: Richard and Marvin Long; and two sisters: Joyce Kline and Frances Moore. Services will be observed privately by her family. Burial will be held in Marion Cemetery.
