Matthew Lersch Obituary

Apex, North Carolina - Matthew (Matt) Phillip Lersch of Apex, North Carolina passed away on March 25, 2025. Matt was born in Wauseon, Ohio, and was the youngest child of David and Shirley Lersch. He spent most of his childhood in Archbold, Ohio. As a child he loved golfing, camping, riding his yellow minibike, attending Evan's youth group, water and snow skiing and attending Miracle Camp.

Matt was a husband, father, brother, uncle, coach and friend to so many of us. His smile and energy would light up a room. His quick wit, boundless energy, love of music and his passion for the game of golf endeared him to all of us.

It was at Anderson University (Indiana) where he met Allison, his wife of 30 years. Allison and Matt were the perfect complement to one another. His zest for life and her calm, nurturing heart made for a partnership and friendship that most of us will never experience in a lifetime. Matt's love for Allison was only rivaled by his love for his three children, Ethan, Olivia, and Sam.

His love of sports was nurtured by his grandfather, father, and older brother. He was a faithful fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. He excelled at golf and played on Anderson University's golf team. Matt also dedicated his time and experience to mentor and coach youth through basketball, football, and golf. Most recently, he was the head coach of the boys' golf team at Panther Creek High School.

Matt is preceded in death by his parents. Matt is survived by his beautiful wife, Allison, son Ethan (Maddie Brashear), daughter Olivia (Will Hoffmann), son Sam, brother David (Kathy Ramey), sister Dawn (Wendell Lantz), and sister Andrea, (Courtney Erb).

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. If you would like to honor Matt, the family asks that you play a round of golf, mentor a young person, go for a walk/run with your loved ones and most important of all, live each and every day with a joyful and grateful heart. Memorial gifts can be made in Matt's name to First Tee, an organization empowering kids and teens through the game of golf.

Matt was a great family man with sharing time and places. He also was friend to all who met him, especially around the golf course. As a player, he knew the game well and was a great player and competitor.
My deepest sympathies to the family.

Matt was a top-tier partner in crime, a dedicated family man, and a die-hard coach on and off the fields. My years of friendship with Matt were the very best - filled with laughs, tears, bargain-hunting, and always lots of in-office shenanigans. His friendship helped carried me through my own highs and lows and it was a blessing to get to know him and his beautiful family who he adored more than anything. I'm sure he's playing 18 holes with DL right now. All my love, condolences, and prayers to Allison and the family.

Matt was such a nice guy and so fun to work with. He made everybody's days brighter. Our birthdays are only like 1 day apart, so I guess that's why we got along. He will be missed. Condolences to the family.

Matt was a remarkable person, and I feel truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside him. I will miss his quick wit and the good-natured jokes he often made about me being from "that state up north." Although I never had the chance to meet his family, it was clear from the way he spoke of them, and through his actions, just how deeply he loved them. His presence will be greatly missed.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.

I´m so sorry for your loss. Matt was a great guy. Good sense of humor and extremely intelligent. Those are the two things I remember most of Matt. I will certainly give to his golf organization. Know that you are all in my prayers.
