William Shipman Obituary

DEFIANCE - William Walter "Bill" Shipman, age 85 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born in Ney, Ohio on October 5, 1940, to the late William and Roba (Stotler) Shipman. On January 14, 1967, he married Nancy (Brinkman) Shipman who survives. Bill was a 1958 graduate of Defiance High School and he proudly served two years in the U.S. Army.

Bill was a member of Defiance VFW #3360, AmVets #1991, and was a life member of Eagles #372. He worked for 30 years at Dinner Bell Foods and for 20 years as a bartender at the Defiance Eagles. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing pool. He loved sports and was a huge fan of NASCAR, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Michigan Wolverines.

Bill will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Shipman of Defiance. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Diane Hernandez and Joann Godsey, and his brother John Shipman.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 3 at the funeral home, with Fr. John Stites officiating. Bill will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens Mausoleum with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area Hospice, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
