Eugene Herbert Obituary
Gene was raised in Rockhill, Fla., and later moved to Ohio where he remained until his sudden death. He was gifted with mechanical abilities and loved working on cars, his rental houses and construction.
He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Kasuntheia LaTedra Hart, Andre Herbert, Eugene "BJ" Herbert Jr. and Kamyah Herbert of Toledo, Ohio; a special "adopted" daughter, Shasondria "Shay" Wallace, Lockhart, Ala.; a loving mother: Sarah Jordan, Toledo; four granddaughters: Oriana Varnes; Naytrean Paker; Lahmargrea "Angel" Parker and the late Zoe Hart. He was anxiously awaiting his first grandson in August. He also leaves six sisters: Annie J. Herbert, Indianapolis, Ind.; Cynthia Herbert, Laurel Hill; Wanda (Kennedy) Woods; Andalusia, Ala.; Jacqueline Herbert, Atlanta, Ga.; Jacqueline McGee, Corinth, Miss.; Francine Peacock, Atlanta; one brother: Jasper Peacock, Atlanta; six aunts: Kathy Thomas and Minnie Lewis, Middletown, Ohio; Pearlie Mae Aaron and Martha Wilkes, Crestview; Annie M. Herbert and Era Coleman, Wing, Ala.; four uncles: Edward "Ted" Lewis, Middletown; Walter Herbert Jr. and Fred Herbert, Wing; Johnny Lewis, Crestview; very special friends: Aandrea Graham, Terry Mays, Lamar Brigham, Arlutha Smiley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.
Visitation services were held Wednesday, July 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at The House of Day Funeral Service in Toledo. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 17 at 11 a.m. at Rockhill Baptist Church. Arrangements were entrusted to McKinnie Funeral Home in Crestview.

Pops I miss you more than words could ever explain! No one will know the pain and hurt im goin through. Why? Because im just like YOU! I may not have came out and said I love you and you may not have came out and said you loved me but we expressed our love to each other in a deeper manner a way words could never express. I may be young but i'm old enough to know that I miss seeing you everyday, hearing your voice, our trips to pick up cars, your smile, and even when you try to scold me(and it hurts you more than it hurts me). RIP Gene!!!! You were a very helpful, caring and thoughful person. I remember the good conversations at the beauty shop. I always thought of you as a great guy. Always the same no matter where we ran into each other. You even brought a broken family together. Thanks again for that. Wow, I am still stunned at the outpouring of love and support we have received since the death of my brother. I don't think I fully appreciated or knew the extent of his love for his family and everyone he met. He lived a great life in the 45 years the Lord gave him and was such a great example on how love and treat people. While I miss him dearly, I know that the Lord had a greater plan for his life than we realize. Romans 8:28 tells us "And we know that all things work together for good to them that Love God, to them that are called according to his purpose". I trust my Savior enough to know that through the tears, sorrow, sadness, pain, questions, and uncertainty, there are some good things coming to our entire family. Don't take anyone or any day the Lord gives you for granted. Make a full commitment to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, love from a full and sincere heart and strive everyday to be a blessing to someone else. Thank you all for loving Gene as much as we do. Kennedy, Kayla, Raven, Nicolas and I love and miss you much. Thank you for all you did for us.

I really can't explain how it feels to have your father/mentor/friend/superman taken away from you. I guess its true what they say "you really don't know what you miss until its gone." I just want you to know pops, that I miss all the lessons and knowledge you thought me everyday about life. Im grateful for everything you done for me and i will keep your legacy going until we meet again.

On July 10, 2010, he passed away from a massive heart attack. Although he is no longer with us, his presence is still very much with us. He was a workaholic and wouldn't sit still even if he felt bad. I know he is resting in peace with no cares of this crazy world. His death was so unexpected but I believe he gave his life to save another. Sometimes life throws us a curb ball that we don't see coming...this was certainly one of those curb balls. I do believe that God makes no mistake so it was his time to go. We can second guess ourselves to death but the only person that can answer our questions is no longer with us. We must remember the heart of gold that he had to help others and his passion in life was selling and working on cars. His legacy will live on through his children. He will be missed but not forgotten.

He had an awesome personality, a true gentleman, and so passionate about helping others. I always admired his love for cars, he kept a nice ride. My true condolences go out to his family-I had the pleasure of knowing Gene for a short period, but he truly had a heart of GOLD-- I purchased a SUV from him and he looked out some repairs that came up for me even though the car was sold to me AS IS--everyone that knew him knew he took good care of his customers and wouldn't sell you a lemon---he will be TRULY missed--- GOD BLESS his family!!!

Words cannot express the shock and sorrow that fills our hearts. Gene had a heart just as big as his wonderful SMILE!
My family and my church family, and many people here in this city where blessed by his unselfishness, his kindness and his generousity...any time I called he would kindly respond.."Rev no problem I will take care of it for you"..He was one of the hardest working men I know. To his mom,sons,daughter and family all he did he did for you guys..be strong and know that earth has know sorrow that heaven can not heal, you will always be in my prayers.
I know that Pensacola, FL was his home town but family please know that Toledo, OH was a much better place because of the generousity of Mr. Clean Gene. He maybe physically gone but he will never be forgotten!

Like many others, I am very saddened for your loss. I met Gene several years ago through his sister Jackie. Jackie and my daughter are high school friends. I don't know another man in Toledo that will look out for my daughters like he did. He always offered his opinion about life's wisdom and encouraged them that they deserve so much better in life. My heart is broken and I will always remember his warm smile and encouraging words. This was a life cut short too soon. May God bless you all and give you the strength to get through your loss.
