It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John H. Hansen, 81, of Simi Valley, on October 31, 2014.
He was born to Eva and Julius Hansen, May 17, 1933, in Powers, Michigan. John received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan College of Mining and Technology, where he also played football and received his MBA from California Lutheran College. John worked as an engineer and consultant over a long career. His highlight was his work with IBM on the Apollo missions that landed man on the moon. Throughout the latter part of his career he worked with Teledyne, Litton, Raytheon and Northrop/Grumman.
He married his first wife, Mary Knapstein in 1958, and had four sons together; John Walter, Jeffrey Jarl, Jerrold Robert, and Jay David Hansen. With the marriage to his second wife, Carol Hansen, he renewed his passion for football as an active supporter of Oaks Christian where his grandsons Terry Lee and Trae participated and he loved to attend plays featuring his granddaughter Taylor. John was a kind, gentle, selfless man and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Hansen, his children: John & Lynda Hansen, of Danville, CA; Jerrold & Mandy Hansen, of Irvine, CA; and Jay & Chris Hansen, of Menlo Park, CA; stepson David Cordova, of Simi Valley, CA; Sister, Dorothy Turrell, of Springfield, Mo; brother, Jule Hansen, of Powers, MI, eleven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a private gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life on December 6, 2014.

To John's Family: I was very surprised, and saddened, to read of John's passing. I worked with John at Teledyne Systems (mid 1980's) and again at Litton (late 1990's). John was the consummate gentleman who always had a big smile and a nice word every time I would see him, which was daily. We worked on many of the same contracts but the most memorable was the S2T contract with Grumman Aerospace on Long Island, NY. There were many many meetings that I attended with John and he was always the voice of calm, reason and wisdom. The S2T program required LOTS of trips to Long Island and John always proved true to himself and the team as the person everyone looked to for leadership, unity, teamwork and assurance. I ALWAYS enjoyed working with John. He was a MAN who just made everyone want to contribute their very best to each task at hand. My recollection of John is the part I enjoyed the most, I just liked being in the same room with him.
I am very sorry for the families loss, I am sure everyone is hurting; but please remember that John was a Man among many professionals who touched each with the best he had, and I am very sure that John's touch of each of your lives, and his legacy of integrity, inquisitiveness, humor and joy will carry forth for MANY generations following in his very large foot steps.
