Abraham Green Obituary

GREEN Abraham L. Green, age 90 of Easton, founder of Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Mr. Green was born in New Haven, son of the late Samuel and Molly (Goldbloom) Green and was a graduate of Hillhouse High, Class of 1933, and was married to the former Minnie Zoffin in 1938. Abe was a U. S. Army veteran having served during World War II in Europe, and was awarded the bronze star and combat medic badge. He was a graduate of The American Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research, and opened the original funeral home in Bridgeport. Mr. Green was a past president of the Jewish Family Service, past president of the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association, Past Grand of Loyalty Lodge 58 I.O.O.F., past president of Loyalty Cemetery Association, past president-commissioner of The City of Bridgeport Purchasing Commission, and past president of the Bridgeport Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Green also served on the Boards of The Jewish Community Center, The United Jewish Council (Federation), The Jewish Funeral Directors of America, Congregation Rodeph Sholom, and chaired The Memorial Committee, The Library Committee, The House Committee, The Talmud Torah Committee, and The Ritual Committee, all at Congregation Rodeph Sholom. Mr. Green is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Minnie Green of Easton; his devoted sons and daughter-in-law, Martin Green of Trumbull, Samuel and Cheryl Green of Trumbull; his cherished grandsons, Matthew and Jonathan Green; and also several nieces and nephews. Abe was also predeceased by his sisters, Mary Rosenstone, Rose Witten and Ida Winer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 1 p.m. from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road Fairfield with interment following at Loyalty Cemetery on Burroughs Road in Fairfield.

To Mrs. Green and the family, we have such fond memories of growing up on Weathervane Drive...being in your home, swimming in your pool, waving at you while we road by on our bikes, stopping to chat with you in the yard...always feeling welcomed and safe.
