Agnes Gribbon Obituary

GRIBBON Agnes L. Gribbon, age 99, of Milford, beloved wife of the late J. Raymond Gribbon, died on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Mrs.Gribbon was born in Waterbury on May 8, 1911 to the late Patrick and Margaret Cunningham Leary and was a Milford resident since 1941. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury in 1929, St. Francis Hospital, School of Nursing in Hartford in 1932 and also attended the Univ. of Bridgeport. Mrs. Gribbon was a school nurse for 17 years for the City of Milford and retired in 1976 from Jonathan Law High School. In 2000, she received "Volunteer of the Year" for 50 years of caring and volunteer service of the American Red Cross, Milford Chapter, at the Regional American Red Cross recognition dinner. She was a member of the Milford Chapter of the Council of Catholic Women, Milford Senior Center, City of Milford's Employee's Association and Laurel Beach Garden Club. She loved people and caring for them and was known as the" Nurse Matriarch" of Laurel Beach. Friends and family were always welcome at the "beach house" where many laughs were had by all and numerous stories told. Survivors include two sons, Patrick Gribbon and his wife, Anne of Stratford and James Gribbon and his wife, Beth of Singapore, twin daughters, Rayellen Martelon and her husband, Jeff and Marybeth Charbonneau, all of Milford; a sister-in-law, Helene Leary; eight grandchildren, Paul Charbonneau (Jaime), David Charbonneau, James Gribbon, Timothy Martelon, Jessica Joyce (David), Courtney and Kerry Gribbon and Mary Kate Martelon; two nephews, Terry Hebert (Eileen) and Christian Leary; one niece, Maureen O'Connor McFadden, many additional nieces and nephews and soon-to-be great- granddaughter. Mrs. Gribbon was predeceased by twin daughters, Mary and Theresa in 1947, a son-in-law, Gary Charbonneau in 1991 and three sisters, May Leary, Alice O'Connor and Helen Hebert, two brothers, William and Francis Leary, a sister-in-law, Doris Leary Braun and two brothers-in-law, Wilson O'Connor and Terrell Hebert. Friends are invited to attend the Funeral on Thursday at 10a.m. (DIRECTLY) in St. Gabriel Church, 26 Broadway, Milford, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Friends may call on Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Gabriel's Development Fund, 26 Broadway, Milford, Ct. 06460 or the Milford Chapter of the American Red Cross, Plymouth Place, Milford, Ct. 06460 in Mrs. Gribbon's memory. Having grown up in Laurel Beach, we were priviliged in knowing and spending many fun hours with the Gribbons. Our condolences to the family. She is remembered fondly.
