Albert Spear Obituary

SPEAR Albert W. Spear, age 89, of Trumbull, formerly of Fairfield, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at the Lord Chamberlain Convalescent Home, Stratford. Born in Westerly, R.I., Mr. Spear lived in Bridgeport for many years prior to moving to Fairfield 33 years ago. He was the retired founder and owner of the Albert W. Spear Funeral Home. Opened in 1938 in the West End section of Bridgeport, Spear Funeral Home served the greater Bridgeport area from that location for 46 years. In 1962, Mr. Spear opened a new facility in Fairfield and expanded to Stratford in 1985. Mr. Spear was a graduate of Central High School and the McAllister Institute in New York. He was on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries, a member and past Master of Corinthian Lodge, #104, AF & AM, a Shriner, and a member of the Police Square Club. Mr. Spear was a former member of the Bridgeport, Connecticut and National Funeral Directors Associations, and was a former member of the Patterson Club and the Bridgeport Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen Tygesson Spear of Trumbull; one son, Jonathan P. Spear and his wife, Carolyn; one daughter, Susan B. Lebedevitch; and daughter-in-law, Katherine F. Spear, all of Fairfield; nine grandchildren: Robert, David and Kevin Spear, Karen McNally, Tami Karwacki, Bryan and Jillian Lebedevitch, Stacey Norieka and Heather Spear; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, A. Carleton Spear; and a son-in-law, John E. Lebedevitch. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2003, at 10 a.m. in First Church Congregational, Fairfield, with the Rev. Donald R. Studer officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
