Albert Szabo Obituary

Szabo, Albert J.
Albert J. Szabo, age 80 of Fairfield, the beloved husband of Edie (Lucas) Szabo for over forty-nine years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2015. Born in Manhattan, Al was the son of the late Alexander and Margaret (Marcy) Szabo. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Class of 1952 and following graduation, Al served proudly in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska for two years. He began his career as a toolmaker at Ward Mfg. and was employed at U.S. Baird in Stratford for over thirty-nine years and retired as a Manufacturing Engineer.
Al was a member of the American Legion Post 143 and was also a volunteer fireman for many years for the Tunxis Hill #2, both in Fairfield. He truly enjoyed life and would always help anyone in need. Al and Edie loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips. He enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and was active in the Nutmeg Senior Bowling League and looked forward to Monday night poker games and trips to the casino.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by special friends, Helen Morrow and Cassandra Morrow, Carole and Gary Adzima and Phyllis and Jack Zotack. He was predeceased by his brother, Alexander and his wife, Connie; and his in-laws, Michael and Edith Lucas.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center with the Rev. Susan Pfeil officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dear Edie, I am so heart-fully sorry to hear of Al's passing. I will always remember him with a smile on his face and sweet things to say about people and life. He will be missed by all that knew him. Wish you peace with your memories and love always, Christine Walsh

Dear Edie, I am so sorry, I just found out, a week later, that Al has past away. In my youth, Al was a wonderful mentor and adviser not to mention a great friend to me. I will never forget him. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
