Aliki Andris Michalaros-Sciascia, 87, of Trumbull, Connecticut, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Aliki was born on August 5, 1931, in Springfield, MA. She was the beloved wife of renowned violinist and composer Armando Sciascia and daughter of the late Grace and John Michalaros.
After graduating from both Columbia University and the Hartt School of Music with her Master's degree, Aliki pursued a successful career in opera, taking her many talents to Milan, Italy, where her passion for music flourished and beautiful voice became widely recognized. She was a regular contributor to Opera News, critiquing performances at 'Teatro Alla Scala'. Upon her return to the states in 1983, Aliki used both her musical and linguistic skills to teach elementary and college students.
Aliki was a highly respected woman in the Greek Orthodox Church, possessing great empathy, integrity and an exceptionally sharp mind. Her interest in all aspects of world events was unparalleled.
Aliki will be remembered for the love she had for family, friends and her precious cats, Lilly and Stellina, which she adored. She is survived by her two nieces, Patricia Donohue and Christa Michalaros; her sister-in-law Helen McGowan; five great-nieces and nephews, Erin Callnan (and Sean), Kerry Donohue, David Hyde, Michael Hyde and Glenn Callahan. She is additionally survived by her cousins Peter Voulgaris, Dean Voulgaris, George Dratelis, Andrew Constatine Dratelis and Athena Dratelis.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. Visitation at Holy Trinity will be held 9-10 a.m. immediately prior to the funeral service. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Main Street, Newtown, CT. Immediately following the burial, friends and family invited for a celebration of Aliki's life at Sal e Pepe, 97 South Main Street, Newtown, CT.
