On behalf of the Ramalho family, I am extending our deepest sympathy to the family of Anthony "Butchie" Gomes. The Gomes and Ramalho families have a long history of friendship. For instance, my Aunt, Bia Ramalho-Galvin, and Butchie's sister, Mary, were the best of friends during the 60's. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

To the Gomes family,
My deepest sympathy on your loss of such a great friendly & caring man. I'm glad to say that I've had the most pleasure and honor working together many times with Tony, always smiling & sharing jokes, made a hectic day always better by days end. He also befriended my elderly aunt & uncle when they resided at the Ellsworth Apts in the 80's and always made it a point to stop in & visit them and say "hi" and if they had any concerns for their safety there. He truly had a heart of gold and respect by many of us all. I'll sure miss him but his smile will last me a lifetime. Always be in my prayers. God Bless you Tony.

To The Gomes Family:
My wife and I are very saddened in learning of Tony's passing.
Tony and I joined the Police Department on April 12, 1978. We were good friends and partners for many years. Tony was loved by my entire family. He always had a smile and joke to tell. He came to our home many times for dinner. He loved our Puerto Rican food.
Rest in peace Tony. You will be in our hearts and thoughts forever.

We were more than partners. We were best friends. Butch, you said more than once that we were twins born a year apart. I still consider you my brother. Until we meet again.

To The Gomes Family,
I offer my sincere condolences in the passing of Tony. We were Officers together on the P.D. Tony had the highest respect from fellow Officers, as well as the citizens he served so proudly. Tony is an example to all that knew him of possessing a kind heart and caring; and being ready and willing to help anyone in need. God bless you, Brother. Rest in peace.

Uncle Butchy,

On last Sunday when I visited you I saw on your face that you were growing very tired, I knew then that you were making the transition between this life and to be with our father... it is at that moment that our father took you by the hand and gracefully welcomed you home. I know that God was expecting you because when I prayed with you and asked did you except JESUS as your Lord and Savior I remember tears fell down your cheek and you started to cry. I will always remember the fond memories of you. Also, I will never forget when people thought that I was your daughter because they said that we looked alike. Nevertheless, it is because of your affirmation in telling me to take the job and now I am Bridgeport's Finest and the first female in our family to become a cop. I will always remember your advice to me regarding the job, and not letting the stress take me down. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Mark, Christina, and Toy stay strong and lean on God for comfort during this difficult time. Uncle Butchy you will be sadly missed....

I am deeply saddened in learning of Tony's passing. He was one of the most personable, and likable individuals I had the privilege of being associated with. He always had a smile on his face and would always talk about "family". When he left the Bridgeport PD they lost a caring professional. He was truly a person of character. God bless you Tony. I hope I will one day see your infectious smile once again.

Dear Tony,
When I was a Rookie in Platoon 3, you where always there to cover me and take care of your "little Sister". Thank you so much for your love and caring. When I was on steady Midnights, in Green 32, I had that great 'detail' to '77' on Ridgefield and Clermont to transport you in for the Day Shift @ 0615 Hrs....I was always there on time, and you were always ready on time.....your uniforms crisp, your shoes and leather gear were polished....how impressive! I'm so glad Jim and I had a chance to visit you last week. I held your hand and spoke to you, I know you were happy to see us, as we were to be with you, one last time. Rest in peace, with our Lord, Tony. and know that you'll be with us and in our hearts forever.
Love,
Weezy

To the Gomes Family,
We offer our sincere condolences in the loss of your Father and our "Beloved Brother in Blue". We love Tony so much. He was a true gentleman, a kind-hearted person. He always had a kind word for everyone and always had a smile on his face. Everyone loved working with Tony....he always was there to 'cover' a call with you, he always 'had your back'. He was a Dad that truly loved his children and always spoke lovingly of them. He has entered "Eternal Life" with our Lord; and our wonderful memories of him will always be with us...our love for him will always be in our hearts forever.
Fondly,
Jim and Weezy

TO THE GOMES FAMILY. TONY WAS A DEAR FRIEND, ONE WHO WILL BE MISSED BY ALL THAT KNEW AND LOVED HIM. TONY AND I WENT TO HARDING TOGETHER AND WAS ONE OF THE NICEST GUYS YOU WOULD WANT TO MEET. I KNEW HIM AS A PUBLIC SERVANT AS ONE WHO WOULD GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP SOMEONE. NOW, HIS LABOR IS DONE AND OUR HEARTS ARE HEAVY WITH HIS LOSS. I KNOW THAT TONY IS IN A BETTER PLACE, WHERE HE WILL NO LONGER SUFFER. GOD BLESS YOU TONY, YOU WILL BE MISSED.
