Antonio Almeida Obituary

ALMEIDA Antonio D. Almeida, age 78, of Bridgeport, entered into rest on Saturday, February 5, 2005, at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Casal Vasco, Portugal, he was the son of the late Americo and Maria (Jesus) Almeida, and was a Bridgeport resident most of his life. Tony was currently a partner in Nova Realty and the past owner of People s Barber Shop, both of Bridgeport. Tony came to Bridgeport when he was 18 years old and received his barber s license from Bullard Havens Technical School in Bridgeport, before moving back to Portugal to marry his wife, Maria Adelaide (Sousa) Almeida, and returning to Bridgeport in 1948 to start his family. He was a former partner in the Anderson Construction Company for many years. Some of his proudest accomplishments were that he was one of the founding lay members of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bridgeport, being past president of the Vasco da Gama Portuguese Social Club of Bridgeport as well as being the elder member of the club. Tony was also active in the Portuguese Scholarship Committee while also being an executive and consultant on the Board of Directors for the Vasco da Gama Club. Survivors include his beloved family, his wife, Maria Adelaide Almeida; son, Joe Almeida and his wife, Kathy, son, Tony Almeida; grandsons, David and Alex Almeida, all of Bridgeport. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at 8 p.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, and at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. The family requests to omit flowers and ask that donations be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Road, Bridgeport, or through the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home.
