Antonio Israel Ortiz, age 80, of Bridgeport, loving husband to the late Judith Ortiz, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Jose and Julia Ortiz and came to Massachusetts in 1962 before settling in Bridgeport, CT. He worked hard his whole life to provide for his family and you could always count on Tony whenever you needed a helping hand. For Tony, family was everything and he loved deeply and found joy being surrounded by friends and family, sharing stories and catching up on the phone or FaceTime. Tony was an avid Red Sox fan and was proud of this year's team, most of the time. He also enjoyed working in the yard, watching westerns and listening to Mexican music.
Tony will be deeply missed by his children, Naomi (Jose), Joseph (Debbie), Julie (Dan), Christopher (Jackie), Sara (Ben), and Anthony (Melissa); his sisters and brothers, Lydia, Ana, Doris, Nilda, Olga, Rafael and Pepito; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he adored and will miss their Papa; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and close friends. In addition to his devoted wife and parents, Tony was also predeceased by his son, Israel; and siblings, Carmen, Jose, Maria, Jesus, Santiago, Calixto, Rosa and Luisa. Tony had a deep faith and devotion, prayed the Rosary daily and encouraged others to do the same. He is now in the arms of God and reunited with his beloved wife, Judy, and resting peacefully.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00am in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, September 24, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport.
