Arnold Nelson Obituary

Arnold Nelson, Jr.
Arnold "Arnie" Nelson, Jr., age 92, of Shelton, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Mulligan) Nelson. Born in Bergin, Norway on March 23, 1933 he was the son of the late Arnold and Emma (Hansen) Nelson Sr. In 1945 he migrated to Bridgeport where his family rented a house on Railroad Avenue. As a young boy he delivered newspapers in the downtown area and also built many friendships participating in programs with the Boy Scouts of America. Arnie was a graduate of Bassick High School in 1952 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953. After completing basic training in Fort Polk, LA, the Korean War ended two weeks prior to his deployment and he was released from the military. In 1954 he met the love of his life Jean Mulligan and in 1955 they were married at St. Patrick Church in Bridgeport. Mr. Nelson worked as a machinist at Singer Manufacturing in Bridgeport and in 1957 was able to build his family a home. It wasn't until 1965 that Arnie transferred jobs to Moore Special Tool Inc., where he ultimately became Lead Project Engineer for measuring machine production for many years before his retirement in 1993. Some of his enjoyments included tennis, motorcycles, cars, music, travel and art however, his greatest enjoyment was found in the time he was surrounded by his family. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted sons, Steve Nelson and his wife Rory Carlson of Beacon Falls and Stanley Nelson and his wife Susan Mateja of Shelton, his cherished grandchildren, Abby Nelson of CO, James Nelson of CT, Katheryn Nelson Cleary and her husband Dillon of TX and Christopher Nelson of CT, his sister, Anna Bobko and her husband John of Milford, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ellen Galumba.
A very special thank you to the entire team at Wesley Heights in Shelton for their professional care and compassion that they have extended to the family.
Friends and relatives may greet the family on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Arnie's memory may be made to The Salvation Army, 30 Elm St., P.O. Box 684, Bridgeport, CT 06604. Steve and Stanley: These are some things I remember about your dad; he was proud of his Norwegian heritage and told stories about his time in Norway as a young boy. The cool glider/sail plane that he got enjoyment from and how he kept his cars in immaculate condition. Condolences and Peace to you both and your families.
