Arthur Goodhue Obituary

GOODHUE Arthur Robert Goodhue, age 91, of Shelton died Saturday, July 9, 2011 after a brief illness. Mr. Goodhue, a long time resident of West Haven, served in the Navy as an airplane mechanic in the Pacific front during World War II. Upon his return from the war, he honed his mechanical talents as a tool and die maker working at Norden. When Norden moved to Norwalk, he secured a position with Yale University Dept. of Geology bringing the ideas and concepts of researchers into 3 dimensional reality using his unequaled machining and tool making skills. He retired from Yale after more than 35 years of service. At Yale and at home he was famous for his ability to fix or repair anything and in the advent of "High Fidelity" built his own system from scratch. His "old school" determination and dedication would never allow him to leave a job incomplete. After losing his wife, Eileen O'Connor Goodhue in 1981, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Wood and they were extensive and even adventurous travelers through the U.S. and even Europe. Mr. Goodhue was involved for many years with the Sea Bluff association of West Haven and the Shoreliner's Drum and Bugle Corps of Milford. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Goodhue, daughter, Maureen Goodhue Polizzi of Milford, son Arthur C Goodhue and daughter-in-law Heidi Sobol Goodhue of Milford and Timothy Goodhue of Ansonia. He is also survived by Sandra Wood Rogers and her husband Donald of Virginia, Gail Wood Hughes of Oxford and Peter Wood of Shelton and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. With the passing of Mr. Goodhue, we lose another shining example of the "Greatest Generation". Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday at 10:45.m. in the Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd., and at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Avenue. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. To leave an online condolence please visit www.mullinsfh.com.

Hi Tim, Chuck and Maureen...my condolences go out to each of you. I remember times and days with your parents on Ivy Street even though I was a tag along. You should all be proud of your Dad as he had a very rich life.
