Carl Fargiano Obituary

Fargiano, Carl N.
Carl Nicholas Fargiano, 78, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Danbury Hospital, of complications resulting from a hemorrhagic stroke. Carl was born on July 3, 1935 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to the late Frank and Caroline Fargiano. He graduated from Warren Harding High School, and in 1957 earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, from which he would later receive his MBA. He married his high-school sweetheart Evelyn Linda Conti on June 6, 1959 in St. Patrick's Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Carl spent the majority of his career developing and managing information systems and services at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut, eventually retiring as a hospital Vice President in 1995. Carl was a lifelong sports fan, and an ardent supporter of the UConn Huskies basketball program. As an adult, he participated in softball, bowling and bocce, and he rediscovered the simple joys of bicycling after moving to Florida in 2006. Having served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, he gave his time generously to various social and charitable organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. In his later years, he volunteered his time and talent for the betterment of his community in the Lakes at Tradition in Port St. Lucie. Carl and his wife traveled extensively during retirement, ultimately realizing a life-long goal to visit all 50 states. Most recently, he and Evelyn completed a month-long Mediterranean cruise and tour of Europe, accompanied by their close friends. Above all else, Carl's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was an eternally devoted and loving husband; a patient, kind and generous father; and a proud, doting grandfather. He will be missed beyond words by all of us who had the great fortune to be counted among his family circle. Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn, and his three sons C. Douglas Fargiano (and wife Michelle) of Bethel, Connecticut, Dr. Stuart Fargiano (and wife Christina) of Goshen, Virginia, and Chris Fargiano (and wife Amanda) of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. He also leaves four beloved grandchildren, Olivia, Justin, Benjamin, and Timothy; his sister Dolores Pivovar; his brother Frank Fargiano; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Saturday January 4, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church 5301 Main Street Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 p.m. To light a virtual candle, visit us at www.abriola.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, Treasure Coast Hospice of St. Lucie, or a charitable organization of your choice.

Evelyn, Doug, Stuart and Chris

It is with great sadness that I learned of Carl's passing. And while we lost touch in recent years, I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know him and to enjoy his humor, his integrity and his love for life. Not only was he a very talented executive who willingly shared his knowledge with others, he was one of the kindest human beings I have ever known. His love of family was evident and he was always so proud of his boys and their accomplishments.

May you find comfort in his memory as we all mourn the loss of this really great guy.

Rest in peace my friend.
