Charles Mack Obituary

Charles D. Mack
After a brief, intense battle with pulmonary complications, Charles D. Mack of Trumbull, CT entered eternal rest on May 1, 2023.
Born in Bridgeport, CT on September 25,1945 to Raymond and Katherine (O' Leary) Mack, Charles enjoyed a precursor to MMA with and against his older brother David on many occasions as a youth, and traditional boxing as a lightweight. A four-year member of the football squad at Warren Harding High School, Charles graduated in 1964.
Upon graduating, Charles served the United States Military in Vietnam. He was proudly assigned to the 335 Army Security Radio Company, Ninth Infantry Division of the United States Army. Upon his return, he worked for General Electric for a short time before beginning his 20-year career as a Police Officer for his hometown of Bridgeport, retiring with the rank of detective. In a second career of public service, Charles worked for the Social Security Administration before finally retiring.
A true patriot of proud Emerald Isle stock, Charles walked the walk of integrity, honor, and sacrifice throughout his life; his interests reflected his commitment to high character. For leisure, Charles enjoyed the company of fellow veterans, frequenting VFW gatherings. He was also inclined to enjoy the solitude of family and solo stays at his cottages throughout central Connecticut. A student of history, Charles often enjoyed war documentaries and movies involving the themes found in times of crisis, such as war and westerns. For the last half of his life, Charles used these movies as inspiration for dealing with tax season and has yet to sign a truce.
One of the greatest gifts Charles was able to experience in his life was the bond between a man and his dog(s). Benji, Peekaboo, and Isabella AKA Baboo. All served him faithfully, as they recognized the trust placed in Charles was to be honored.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Marlene Jennings, with whom he was able to share his life experience of peaks and valleys and love during their many years together. He is also survived by his older brother, David Mack of Naugatuck, son Sean Mack of Fairfield; daughter Jonna Mack of Milford; and daughter Amber Mack; grandson Jacob Papazoglou and granddaughter Alexa Papazoglou.

My sincere condolences to the Mack family. I supervised Charlie at the Ansonia Labor Dept office. Charlie was a hard worker, extremely reliable. In the few times when business was slow and we had the time to chat, Charlie told some interesting stories about his time on the police force. But the story I will always remember his telling was when he came in possession of a metal detector and his first adventures in its use. Telling the stories he was laughing in tears and I was soon joining him - that was a great conversation. Charlie will be missed, he always wanted to be of help to others. Again my condolences.
