Charles Strait Obituary

Charles McIver Strait
Charles (Sandy) McIver Strait, age 92, died August 10, 2023, in Flower Mound, TX, his home for the last 25 years, in the loving presence of his wife, Agnes, and son, Don. He died of complications from multiple myeloma. Sandy, who previously resided in Fairfield and Easton, CT, is survived by his wife Agnes (Schuerer); three children, Jody Strait of West Hartford, CT, Donald Strait (Deborah Fins) of Stamford, CT, and Sara Egan of Madison, CT; and four grandchildren, Kyle Egan of Cos Cob, CT, Rosana Strait of Stamford, CT, Blake Egan of Boston, MA, and Ben Strait of Brooklyn, NY, who all called him "Gman." He is also survived by his sister Barbara Wentz of Hobe Sound, FL, nephew Eric Wentz, niece Jenny Rich, and niece Robin Chisholm, and brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Suzanne Schuerer of Flower Mound.
Sandy was previously married to Joan Sommer Kratky of Vero Beach, FL. Sandy grew up in Upper Montclair, NJ, attended the Hill School (PA) and Amherst College (MA), and was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. Following the Navy, he worked in Manhattan for the New York Trust Company and Kidder Peabody & Co. He worked for 25 years for Citytrust Bank in Bridgeport, CT, which was later acquired by Chase Manhattan Bank.
As a child, Sandy was passionate about sports and music, a born organizer of baseball teams and singing groups, intellectually curious, and hardworking. At Amherst, he founded the Zumbyes, an a cappella singing group that remains a force on campus to this day. After his beloved Dodgers departed for the West Coast, he developed a lifelong love for the New York Giants football team. He was exceptionally kind and loyal, and he loved to laugh and make you laugh. When those around him faced hardships, he supported them selflessly and courageously.
A private remembrance will take place in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to Amherst College, or the charity of your choice.

Agnes and family, I have just learned of Charlie's passing. I am sorry for your loss. I loved working with him and will always remember his attention to errors in the CT Post and the time the deli returned his briefcase to him filled with potatoes. He was always forgetting it. We had some great chats. His presence in the world will be missed.

To the family of Charlie, I never was lucky enough to meet him, but felt how big his heart was through stories from Jody. The pretty blue necklace Charlie gave her at Christmas time brings her lots of comfort. The pretty flowers she planted in her yard will blossom every spring in remembrance of Charlie. Jody often commented about how happy Agnes made her dad. She was very grateful for that relationship. The world is definitely a different place now. Sending thoughts and prayers to all, Love Ann Marie

I found Charles to be a very intelligent man - who made
me laugh ever time we talked.

Agnes, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.
