Damian G. Vaccarella, age 88, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Sandra Razewski Vaccarella, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, with his family by his side. Born and raised in West Rutland, Vermont, he was the son of Leonardo and Liboria DiGangi Vaccarella. Damian graduated from West Rutland High School in 1953 and the University of Notre Dame in 1957, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. This was followed by 2 years of military service in the United States Army. He began his career in 1960 at Avco Lycoming, continuing at Textron and Allied Signal. While working full-time, he earned his MBA from the University of Bridgeport in 1967. After retiring from Allied Signal in 1998, Damian continued to work for Berliner-Gelfand Insurance until 2023, and as a licensed income tax preparer. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, serving as Special Minister of the Eucharist. The highlights of Damian's travels with Sandra in recent years were their trips to Italy and Poland. His great joy was time spent with his family during annual trips to Notre Dame and Auburn football games, holidays in his West Rutland childhood home, attending grandchildren's school and athletic events, and celebrating their achievements. In addition to his loving wife, he will be greatly missed by his beloved children, Jon Vaccarella and his wife Christine, Lynn Myrter and her husband Brett, Julie Spotts and her husband Frank, adored grandchildren, Nicole and Kyle Vaccarella, Alexandra Spotts, and Katharine Myrter, devoted brother, Joseph Vaccarella, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Damian was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and "Buster" Guerriero, and his sister-in-law, Betty Vaccarella. In keeping with his wishes, there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield. Interment will be in West Rutland, Vermont, at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Peter Tortora and Dr. Peter Cimino of the Fairfield Medical Group, and Dr. Richard Taikowski, Cardiology Specialist with the Northeast Medical Group for the care shown to Damian over the years. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Notre Dame Sorin Society fund for students' financial aid, University of Notre Dame, Department of Development, 1100 Grace Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
