David Citronberg Obituary

David L. Citronberg
David L. Citronberg, age 96, of Fairfield, CT, died on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Born in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin Citronberg and Sara (Shulkin) Citronberg and has been a resident of Fairfield since 1954.
After attending local schools in Gloversville, Mr. Citronberg graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1949. Following that, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea in 1951 and 1952 with the 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Division, and was among the first group of replacement troops sent to Korea in 1950. Upon completing military service with an Honorable Discharge and the rank of sergeant, he worked for a short period of time in his father's glove business in Gloversville. During that period, he met and married the former Marilyn Masnik of Fairfield, and he entered Boston University Law School, graduating in 1957. Following his admission to the Connecticut Bar that year, he began his practice of law in association the with late Stratford Probate Court Judge Richard L. Weldon and in 1960 he entered a long-term, enjoyable partnership of more than 37 years with Samuel W. Zwecker. Following the retirement of Mr. Zwecker, he practiced in association with Robert P. Cohen. He greatly enjoyed his work and the people he met during those years and established many long-term friendships, both within and outside the practice of law.
Mr. Citronberg was active in Masonic affairs and served as Worshipful Master of Corinthian Lodge #104, A. F. & A.M. in 1966. In addition to his Masonic activity, Mr. Citronberg greatly enjoyed classical music and has served as a broadcaster for Station WMNR in Monroe since 1988 as the host of "Tuesday Evening Classics". As such, he was able to enlarge his knowledge of classical music, particularly of the Romantic period of composition, and music became a very important part of his life. The opportunity to share that music with his radio audience was very satisfying to him. He has enjoyed traveling extensively and held a private pilot's license.
He is survived by his companion and best friend of many years, Florence Jacobson, his daughter, Barbara G. Lown and husband Fred, his son Dr. Robert J. Citronberg, his grandchildren Alison, Jennifer (Drew), Jessica (Ryan), Megan, and great-grandson Cameron. He was predeceased by his sister, Gertrude Schoenberg, and his daughter Amy.
Funeral services were private, and a future celebration of his life will be commemorated. There will not be a shiva period. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that those who wish to do so contribute to WMNR Fine Arts Radio or a charity of their choice.

My mother had a corset and lingerie store in Bridgeport from the mid 40, until mid 50s. One of the ladies who worked there was an older lady named Mrs. Citronberg. We called her Mrs. C. I wonder if she was a relative, maybe David´s mother. In any case, please accept my condolences for your loss.

David dated my mom, Shirley Sambrook for many years when I was young. He was the kindest man and always a gentleman. I have many memories of swimming in the pool where he lived in Stratford and have thought of him often over the last 40 years. I´m so sorry for your loss
