David Coplan Obituary

COPLAN David R. Coplan, age 92, of Tamarac, Fla., founder of Alliance Paper and Packaging in Brentwood, Long Island, N.Y., passed on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the University Hospital. He was previously from Atlantic Beach, N.Y. and Bayside, N.Y. David was predeceased by is first wife, Rose Neistat of New London. She was a cousin of Louis Nye, the comedian. He was the first son of the late Edward R. and Hannah Ringel Coplan of Elizabeth, N.J. Mr. Coplan is survived by his wife, Dorothy Vann Coplan of Tamarac, Fla.; two sons, Michael and his wife, Renee, of Milford, and Stuart and his wife, Rowena, of Bayside, N.Y.; also grandsons, Scott and his wife, Susi, of New York City and Fire Island, Neil and his wife, Ronna, of Sharon, Mass. and Adam and Matthew from New York City. He also had four great-grandchildren, Nathan Ryan, Daniel Alexander, Emily Paige and Rachel Jane. David spent 44 years in the paper industry forming Alliance Paper in 1960 with six partners in New Hyde Park, N.Y. He was very active in Boy Scouts, Troup 195 as committee chairman. Both sons are Eagle Scouts. He was also president of B1Nai Brith, Queens Friendship Lodge, Masonic Lodge Golden Rule 486, in N.Y.C., Police Auxiliary League, The Workman1s Circle and served as Master of Ceremonies with Sam Levenson at the Jewish Center of Forest Hills West where he was on the board of directors in its formative days. He briefly served as a Merchant Marine after Pearl Harbor. Dave had a great sense of humor. He was an exceptional provider and rose to become vice president of Alliance Paper. He will be missed. Interment was at Wellwood Cemetery, Pinelawn, Farmingdale, N.Y. at the Workman1s Circle Division on Sunday, September 30, 2006.
