David McMahon Obituary

David Gordon McMahon
David Gordon McMahon, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on October 2, 2021, after celebrating the Red Sox victory the night before. David is remembered by his family and friends as a loving and caring man. David was born on November 21, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio, to Dr. Gordon and Genevieve (Taylor) McMahon. David recently attended his 60th reunion of Kent State high school in Kent, OH. He enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Semmes from 1963-1967. He went on to graduate from Syracuse University in 1969 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. David's career as an electrical engineer spanned more than 30 years, including Norden Systems and Pr1me computers. When he retired from electrical engineering, he became a staple of the community driving the pink ice cream truck, lovingly named J & D Ice Cream. He sold this business in 2016 to devote his time to his hobbies. David was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn women's basketball fan, rarely missing a game. He was a former member of the Stratford Sterling Ski club, where his romance with Jeanette blossomed and grew. For the past several years a member of the Fairfield Forestry Committee. David also enjoyed woodworking and was a voracious reader. David loved being a grandpa, and worked on projects with Nate on a regular basis. Their latest collaboration was the installation of a new mailbox that was completed the day before he passed away. David will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Jeanette (Mihocko) McMahon; his daughter, Rebecca McMahon, of Denver, CO; his son John McMahon, daughter-in-law, Sarah (Shokite) McMahon, and cherished grandson Nate, McMahon, of Fairfield. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Penny (McMahon) and Karl John Dash, of Fullerton, CA; his cousin, Drew, and wife, Susan Catan, of Mountainview, CA; nieces, Emily Catan, of Ireland, Colleen, and husband, Matt Ferreira, of Fullerton, CA, and Bridget Dash, of London, UK; brother-in-law, Drew, and wife, Molly Mihocko, of Philadelphia, PA, nephew, Jeffrey Mihocko, of Philadelphia, PA; and niece, Tracy Mihocko, and husband, Zach Keating, of New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his parents and two loving aunts, Dr. Emily Taylor and Dorothy Catan. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home and 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Jeanette, We just hear the terrible news this morning. We are so sorry for your loss. Dave was a very special person, always friendly, helpful if needed, serious at work and fun at play. Many good years at Norden.

I am so sorry to hear of Dave´s death. We went to school in Kent and I had seen him last at a high school reunion a few years ago. I couldn´t go to this year´s and am now very sorry I missed seeing Dave there. He was a true friend and exceptional man. He will be missed by many and know, Jeanette, you and your family have happy memories.
