David Miller Obituary

Miller, David
David Miller, age 86 of Stratford, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012. He was the youngest son of hearing-impaired parents who grew up in post-depression New York. David was married to his beloved wife Dolores for 51 years, with whom he had three children, Neil, Keith and Melinda. They made their home in Trumbull where they lived for 43 years until Dolores's passing. For the last 13 years David was the devoted partner to Muriel Helfer of Stratford. He enjoyed a successful career as a retail merchant employed by Read's department stores as Senior Vice President where he worked for 34 years. David volunteered at the Jewish Home, the UJA, Jewish Family Services, and served on the board of directors of Congregation B'nai Israel. A lifetime physical fitness enthusiast, he was a highly skilled tennis player retiring from the sport only last January due to an injury. His other recreational interest was boating and fishing which he enjoyed with his family every summer. He traveled extensively, was exceptionally well-read and passionate regarding his political views. Unarguably the "life of the party", David had a wide circle of friends who will miss him dearly. David is survived by his children and their spouses, Neil & Esther Miller of Trumbull, Keith & Vickie Miller of San Francisco, Melinda & Syd Gordon of Wilton as well as his grandchildren, Jeffrey Miller, Jaime & Jed Bosworth, Ryan Miller, Jessica Miller, and Matthew Gordon.
Services will take place on Friday, November 02, 2012 at 10:00 AM from Congregation B'nai Israel, 2710 Park Ave, Bridgeport, CT., with interment following at B'nai Israel Cemetery on Kings Highway in Fairfield. The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements. For those who wish, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

David Miller was a kind, professional businessman who was deeply respected by all employees of Reads Department Stores. He was well known as a serious and astute businessman and will be remembered as a wonderful person. I was very young during that time but always remember him with respect and fairness. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

David Miller was our Merchandise manager when I worked at Read's in Trumbull and New Milford from 1968-1971. I was in the Junior Sportswear Department and would frequently see him making the rounds to all the departments. He always had a smile on his face and was always perfectly attired. He was the ultimate professional and a real gentleman. I am so sorry for your loss and I send my deepest sympathy...
