David Smarz Obituary
David William Smarz, age 65, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Bridgeport Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Lori Fox Smarz. He was born in Derby, CT to the late Michael and Florence Skelding Smarz. David graduated from Shelton High School and the University of New Haven with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He was employed as a Police Officer with the Town of Stratford before retiring and starting his own private investigation firm. David was an avid Boston sports fan, with hockey being his favorite. He loved attending Boston Bruins games with his sons. He played on several local hockey teams throughout the years in both Shelton and Bridgeport. He had a rare gift of finding humor in any situation, with a joke or prank that left everyone laughing. In addition to his wife Lori of 36 years, survivors include his sons Robert and Matthew, brothers Michael, George (Barb), and Christopher; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Rob) Sampson and Cori Catandella; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Pistey Funeral Home, now located at 2611 Main Street, Stratford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark RC Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the A-T Children's Project which supports research to find a cure for his son Rob. A-T Children's Project, 6810 N.
