David Tichy Obituary

Tichy, David
David Thomas Tichy, age 72, of Fairfield, died suddenly Monday, August 1, 2016, at home. He was born in Bridgeport on August 28, 1943, the son of the late Charles Tichy and Margaret Fogarty Tichy. David was married to Laura Mozier for 33 years and was the father of John Palmer and Katherine Frances Mozier-Tichy. He also leaves behind a brother Charles Tichy and his wife Patricia as well as several nieces and nephews.
David grew up in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 1961. He joined the Navy after high school and served proudly for 6 years on the USS Intrepid and in the Vietnam conflict with MCB4. While on the Intrepid, he was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis and recovery of the Mercury 7 space capsule. His second hitch was with MCB4 in Vietnam and he was discharged shortly after the Tet Offensive. While with MCB4 he made several lifelong friends. This time in his life after being discharged reads like a history of the 60s; driving cross country in a VW van, going to Altamont, seeing Jimi Hendrix and the Stones, getting arrested (accidentally) in a protest in People's Park, living in Oakland and hanging out in Berkeley. Coming back to CT, he worked for Bowman Trucking for 17 years before becoming a paralegal in the office of Attorney Joan Farcus for 20 years.
Dave was a drum corps enthusiast, playing with the PAL Cadets throughout his youth. Along with his brother, Charlie and cousin Kenny, was a founding member of Park City Pride. His passions included reading, learning and making his point clear. He was also an avid storyteller keeping the family stories alive. He enjoyed genealogy and was a member of the Denison Society and Palmer Society.
Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Dave's life at St. Paul's Church Hall, 661 Old Post Road, Fairfield, on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army.

David was my second cousin, his grandfather and my father were brothers, and although our meetings were few and far between, I thought him a very thoughtful man. My condolences to his family.

The loss of a true friend is very difficult for me. Knowing Dave in Viet Nam, in 60's California, and lately as we both became old men, I felt that he never changed. He stayed in touch and he loved to talk. I hope and pray that some measure of peace can be yours and all three of you can find comfort.

Dear Laura, John and Kate,
It was with deep sadness that we read of the passing of Dave. We offer our prayers and condolences. Dave was very proud of his family and enjoyed telling me stories about you. I met Dave in his youth as a member of the PAL. We re-established our friendship when we were members of the Pride. We were lucky to know such a nice and honorable person. We will miss you Dave.

I was with David on his big cross-country adventure in the 60s. I knew him as an affable and lively man. I am sorry that he's gone.
