David Paul Van Wart I, age 63, of Shelton, passed away February 25, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital after a short illness. David was born in Bridgeport to the late Irving and Esther Van Wart. He was a journeyman cabinet maker and worked with his dad Irving in Irv-van's and sons Cabinet Shop until his dad retired. David then worked for Yale New Haven Hospital for over 18 years. David was an avid chef and the former proprietor of the Hungary Bear Deli. He was in the process of writing his own cookbook. David was a longtime member of the Boy Scout's Housatonic Council, serving as scoutmaster for Troop 25 and assistant scoutmaster for Troop 28 and 1993 Jamboree Scoutmaster. David received the Housatonic Council President's Award in Scouting. He earned wood badge status and was a Bob White. He is survived by his wife JoLynn Van Wart (member of Huntington Fire Company #3) of Shelton; three children Jennifer Van Wart of Shelton, Kimberly Atkinson and her husband James of Shelton, and David Van Wart II (member of Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co#1 in Shelton, Citizens Engine in Seymour and a Naugatuck Fire Department Dispatcher) and his wife Trish of Seymour; his brother Richard Van Wart and his wife Michele of Shelton; his niece Taylor Szinavel and her husband Matthew and his nephew Ryan Van Wart. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Friends and family are invited to attend his memorial service on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church 5995 Main St. Trumbull. Inurnment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
