David Wakeley Obituary

WAKELEY David Fuller Wakeley, age 73, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, after a brave battle with lung cancer. Dave was born April 16, 1935 in Trumbull, to David and Ethel Wakeley. After graduating from Trumbull High School, Dave left the bucolic confines of the family dairy farm and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He was assigned to military police and obtained the rank of staff sergeant. His detail provided security to sensitive intelligence installations at bases worldwide. Upon discharge from Truax Air Force Base, Dave settled in the Madison area and worked for more than 30 years at Kessenich's in Madison, where he was the warehouse manager. When not working, Dave could usually be found outside working in his many gardens on his Windsor property or cheering on the Packers during the wintertime. Dave is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Wakeley; two sons, David of Chestertown, Md., and James of Marshall; his brother, William of Shelton; a sister, Kathy of Milford; his stepchildren, Kirk Shaw of Morrisonville, Rourke Shaw of Windsor, and Kendell Walker of Odin, Ill.; as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Moanona Dr., Madison, WI. at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2009, with the Rev. Father John-Brian Paprock presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2009, and from noon until the time of the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions can be made to HospiceCare, Inc. or American Cancer Society.
