Donald Nelson Obituary

Donald A. Nelson Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family of Donald A. Nelson Sr. announces his passing on April 23, 2022, at his home in Milford, CT. Donald was born in Bridgeport, CT. on December 7, 1937, and had been a lifelong area resident. He spent his childhood in Stratford with his three sisters: Joyce, Corrine "Corky" (deceased) and Lois. He was a graduate of Stratford High School, this caption from his high school yearbook is a great reflection of how he lived his life, "With a song in my heart." Laughs easily, heartily, and infectiously, easy-going manner, and a person you can rely on. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in 1956; after his honorable discharge he went on to have a distinguished career at Peoples Bank where he retired as Senior Vice President of Consumer Banking. In retirement, Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; he loved music, laughter, good food and spirits, travel, golf, wood carving (songbirds), walking, and storytelling. He is predeceased by his eldest child, Anne Marie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Ann; his children, Donald Jr., Jeffrey, and Deborah; his ten grandchildren, Adam, Elyse, Thomas, Jake, Emily, Rachael, Taylor, Ryan, Jeffrey, and Drew: and his two great-granddaughters, Vivian, and Lennon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 29th, 2022, at 11:00 am at Saint Mary's Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home- Stratford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make a donation in memory of Don to Yale New Haven Transplantation Center (YNHTC) 20 York Street New Haven, CT 06510 For more information or to make an online condolence, please visit www.adzimafuneralhome.com
