Doug Incledon Obituary

Doug Incledon Llewellyn Douglas Incledon (69) was born in Washington in 1939 but was a life-long resident of Long Beach. He passed away December 13, 2008 after a lengthy battle with MSA. Doug graduated from Wilson High and attended Long Beach City College before graduating from the University of California, Berke ley with a degree in civil engineering. Following graduation from Cal, Doug enlisted in the US Navy and attended Officer Candidate School before entering the Civil Engineer Corps. It was during his first duty assignment that he married his beloved wife of 45 years, Darl. Following military service Doug and Darl returned to Long Beach where he continued work in the civil engineering field. In 1985 he established his own firm, IWA Engineers. His illness compelled his early retirement in 1997, but his legacy i ncludes hundreds of successful engineering projects throughout California and dozens of well-trained civil engineers who benefited from Doug's mentoring. Doug was a devoted family man. He and Darl had two children, Susan Kirk (Matt) who gave them three grandsons, Alex, Braden and Taylor, and Michael (Sherilyn) who gave them their granddaughter, Caitlin. Doug loved life and had a strong sense of family and community. He supported many Long Beach organizations and volunteered his time as a baseball coach and Boy Scout leader. Friends and neighbors could always count on him, whether rebuilding their cars or remodeling their homes. He traveled extensively and yearned to explore new places. Doug always had an unwavering "can-do" attitude and fully optimistic view on life. He is truly missed. A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Bay Shore Community Church, 5100 The Toledo, Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to any of the following: Bay Shore Chur ch, 5100 The Toledo, Long Beach, 90803; Memorial Hospice Program, 695 E. 27th Street, Signal Hill, 90755; or Vanderbilt Shy-Drager Research Fund, Multiple System Atrophy, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, AA-3228 Medical Center North, Nashville, TN, 37232-2195.
