Duane Hull Obituary

HULL Duane C. Hull, a resident of Bennington, Vt. and a former longtime resident of the Bridgeport area, died Monday, January 8, 2006, at Albany Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport, April 1, 1925, he was the eldest son of Eugene C. and Margaret E. Hull. He graduated from Bassick High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy submarine service. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Hull was a 1949 Cum Laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame receiving his bachelors degree in business administration. While at the university, he played trumpet in the concert and marching bands. He was controller of Merritt Coil & Transformer Corporation of Chicago and later, Flavor Straws Corp of Westchester County. Upon receiving his CPA designation, he founded the accounting firm of Hull & Hull in Stratford. He was a member of the Stratford Elks and the Stratford American Legion‚s award-winning drum corps, the Legionnaires. He was a private pilot for many years and an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen Toomey of Bennington, Vt.; his four children, Joan Dugas of Staunton, Va., Fay Hull of West Haven, Mark Hull of Stratford and Scott Hull of Waterbury; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his brother, Gene Hull of Fort Pierce, Fla. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Butler of Trumbull. Other survivors include his wife‚s two sons, Marc and Matthew Daigneault; and Marc‚s son, Cullen. The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, Thursday, at 10:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, North Bennington, Vt. at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. At the family‚s request there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at St. John‚s Cemetery. Contributions in Duane‚s memory may be made to the Salvation Army through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
