Edward Lane Obituary

Edward J. Lane
Edward J. Lane, age 89, of Ansonia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 19, 2024, at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. He was born on April 21,1935 in Derby to Edward J. and Lucy Lonergan Lane. Ed was a graduate of Ansonia High School (1952) and Becker Junior College (1954) with a degree in Business Administration. He served as a US Army Specialist 5th Class from 1956-1958 in Korea. Ed worked at Seccombe's Cleaners for over 50 years until his retirement in 2011, assuming ownership of the business along with his wife, and in-laws Donald and Fern Seccombe in 1966.
Volunteerism was of great importance to Ed. He was a member of the Eagle Hose Hook and Ladder Company #6 for 65 years and served as Captain in 1968. He also was a member of the Ansonia Fire Police. For 18 years he served the City of Ansonia as a member of the Board of Apportionment and Taxation including the role of Vice Chair. This role allowed him to also be part of the 2001 School Building Committee. Ed also served as a Trustee and Past President (1998-2003) of the Pine Grove Cemetery Association from 1975 until his passing.
Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Laura Seccombe Lane and children Jennifer (Robert) Magri of Seymour and James Lane (Jennifer Tarozzi) of Wilton. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa (Kenneth) Ventresca, Joshua Magri, Connor Lane, Samantha (Sarah) Burroughs, Ethan (Christie) Magri and Sean Magri. Great-grandchildren include Isabella Ventresca, Carter and Chloe Magri and Layla Burroughs. He is also survived by his niece, Elizabeth Bosses and sister-in-law Jane Seccombe. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marjorie Bosses. Friends may call on Sunday, November 24th from 4 PM - 7 PM at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin Street, Ansonia. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25th at the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Burial follows in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Edward and Laura Lane Family Fund at the Valley Community Foundation (www.valleyfoundation.org), 253-A Elizabeth St, Derby, CT 06418. This donor advised fund supports literacy efforts in the Ansonia Public Schools and education and supply needs of the Ansonia Fire Department. The family wishes to thank Sharon Lawlor, who compassionately and lovingly tended to Ed's daily needs during his recent illness as well as the providers from Yale New Haven Health, Elara Nursing and Opal Stork for their care and support.
