Edward D. Talbot
Edward D. Talbot of Monroe, CT entered into eternal rest with the Lord on March 15 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 21, 1929 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of John Henry and Florence (Ballinger) Talbot, and grew up in Stratford.
An honors graduate of Stratford High School, Ed was a Private First Class in the Army, serving on the front lines as a radio communications operator, encrypting and decrypting messages. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars and the United Nations Service medal for Combat Infantry.
Under the GI bill, he was certified for Oil Burner Servicing at the Brooklyn, NY Trade School, and worked alongside his brother Harry at the Talbot Fuel Company in Trumbull prior to owning and operating Long Hill Fuel Company and Trumbull Garage and Service Center. Later in his career, he was a master auto mechanic at Knecht's Garage in Trumbull.
Ed's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. For nearly 70 years, he was a devoted parishioner at St. Stephen's Church in Trumbull. His unfailing faith sustained him and his faith was the greatest gift he gave to his children. Ed was an accomplished golfer and won many tournaments with the Holy Name Golf League, including a league championship. He was a longtime member of the Tashua Knolls Golf Association. His love of nature and the outdoors was a constant joy in his life. He especially enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod and feeding the birds daily in his backyard. He was a sports enthusiast and a fan of the NY Mets, Giants, Rangers and Knicks as well as the UCONN men's and women's basketball teams.
A constant source of strength for his family, Ed's easy smile and unfailing sense of humor were noted by all who knew him. He was born with a spring in his step and a twinkle in his eyes. He was a blessing to his family and he will be deeply missed.
Ed is survived by his loving and devoted children, Derrick, Kathleen, Mary, and Lynne, as well as 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Teresa, his brothers Harry, John, Robert and Thomas Talbot and his sisters Marjorie and Patricia Talbot.
The family would like to thank Edward Tuohy, MD and the Stratford VNA for their support and loving care.
