Eleanor M. Bodek, 92, of Bridgeport, CT, formerly of Larksville, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, eldest daughter of the late Francis and Mary Kratzer Olowiany. She took the business course at Larksville High School. As the Class of 1949 valedictorian, she was awarded a full scholarship to College Misericordia, which she unselfishly turned down in order to help support her family by taking secretarial employment instead. Eleanor became a top-notch executive secretary at several companies. She wed Robert in 1957 and relocated to Connecticut, where they then raised their two children and always had a dog as an additional member of the family. When her children were teens, she obtained a position as secretary to a former probate judge, and worked for his law firm well into her 70s. She was a member of St. Andrew's Parish in Bridgeport, CT and former member of St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Solidarity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For many years, she was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, an international noncollegiate sorority which fosters learning and friendship. She formerly was a star for a local bowling league and amazed us with her skills at sewing.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Bodek of Bridgeport, CT; son, Dr. Kenneth Bodek and his wife Stacy and their daughter Audrey of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter, Elaine Bodek and her partner Chuck Ritenour of Bridgeport; Elaine's sons, Dr. Daniel Bodek and his wife Colleen and Laurence Bodek and his fiancée Ann Marie; and Daniel and Colleen's daughters, Anna and Molly; and her sister, Patricia Olowiany of Larksville; and nephews, Michael and David Novrocki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 126 Nesbitt St., Larksville, with interment in the parish cemetery in Dallas.
Friends are invited to join the family for a viewing at the church from 8:30 a.m. until Mass time.
