Florence Maline Obituary

Maline, Florence
Florence Lillian Susteen Maline, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2015 at home with her loving and devoted family by her side. Florence was born in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Louis and Shirley Susteen, grew up in Bridgeport, CT and lived in Fairfield, CT until she retired to Delray Beach, FL with her constant loving companion Jose Moszkowski of over 40 years. Florence was a young wife and mother when she was forced back into the working world upon the death of her husband Al. Florence began more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Bridgeport Jewish Community Center, first as the secretary to the athletic director and ultimately rising to the position of Executive Assistant. Florence lived her life of challenges with grace, gratitude and love. She found joy in playing cards, going out to lunch and attending the theater with her friends. Her greatest joy was to come north to spend time with her daughter and best friend Shari. It wasn't until the last month in hospice care that she was really able to see for herself what a truly beautiful, funny and loving person she had always been. She lived her life always finding the good, often noting that things could be worse. In her true spirit she continued to connect with all the new nurses and doctors with whom she was in contact, wanting to know all about their personal background, their lives and being interested in them as people. Many of her nurses thanked her for giving them strength. Florence offered advice to help with their problems, appreciated all that they were doing for her to keep her comfortable and expressed her unwavering gratitude with never a complaint. She often mentioned how lucky she was to die in her sleep because so many people don't get that opportunity. Florence Maline, a loving mother to Shari Maline and mother-in-law to John Button, caring sister and sister-in-law to Marcia and Bob Nishball, Bunny Flesher and Sam Barnum. She also leaves behind Jose Moszkowski, her nieces and nephews, the Green and Glazer families and all who ever crossed her path. Florence's final destination in her life's journey reunited her with those that have gone before, husband Al, daughter Lisa, sister Jeannie and her parents. Funeral services will take place on Monday June 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home 88 Beach Road in Fairfield with interment following at Loyalty Cemetery. The family is requesting for all who attend to wear white or colorful clothing to represent Florence's spirit. Donations in Florence's memory may be made to Trustbridge Hospice 5300 East Avenue West Palm Beach, FL. 33407. (Trustbridge.com) Shiva will be observed at the home of Shari Maline in Trumbull on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
