Merando, Frank P.
Frank P. Merando, age 91, beloved husband of the late Thomasina Surace Merando passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 9, 2013. He was born on October 7, 1921, son of the late Joseph and Fannie Gelormini Merando. He is survived by his unselfish caregivers and Daughters, Lisa Christensen and her husband Stephen and Gail Friedman of Fla.. Grandfather of Jason Friedman of Texas. Brother of Alvin Merando and his wife Janet. Brother-in- Law of John Surace and his wife Joyce. He also leaves behind his life long friends Marty and Millie Martino and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Merando. Frank served four years in the Army Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in World War II. He was a member of Troop 315 as an Aerial Engineer, instructing on every fighter ship in Lincoln, Nebraska. Frank flew the hump during WWII and proudly wore his WWII hat with pins daily. He served 2 ½ terms as a Bridgeport Alderman. Frank loved sports from Boxing, Golfing , watching the Yankees and playing cards with his buddies from the senior center every week. He also loved to play baseball and together with Vito Denato, started the first slow pitch ASA in the City of Bridgeport. Frank worked as a sales manager for Colonial Toyota until his retirement. In retirement he spent his time doing all the things that made him happy. For all of you who knew him, it's like Frank Sinatra's song, HE DID IT HIS WAY. Special thanks to Vitas Hospice and all his doctors, nurses, caregivers, family and friends for their compassion during this difficult time. Family would also like to thank Aida Cartagena and her family, Jorge Bejar and Nacy Gerard for all their help and compassion they showed during Frank's illness. Friends may greet the family at their residence on Saturday July 13, 2013, from 12noon to 6pm for a special prayer service. All State Cremation & Funeral Care are in charge of arrangements.

Dear Lisa & Steve, Gail. Sending my condolences to the Merando family. Frankie is going to be sadly miss. I remember when we moved into this house the Merando family were so to us. They were so friendly and kind. Frankie was always was so proud of his family. Lisa & Steve and Gail. Lisa & Steve had taking good care of him. They had dedicated so much of their lives in taking care of Frankie. Frankie was a wonderful man. He loved the Yankies too. May he rest in peace. He lived a good life always having a smile on his face. Surely going to miss him. Love you Frankie.
