George Fatsi Obituary

FATSI George Vasil Fatsi , beloved husband of Eleftheria (Terri) Zisimanou Fatsi, Protopsalt (Head Cantor) for the St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, peacefully passed away at home in Fairfield, in the loving arms of his family Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in his 76th year. Born in Thompson, July 29, 1931, the son of the late Vasil M. Fatsi and Caterina Vanghele Fatsi, Mr. Fatsi was a Fairfield Town resident for more than 50 years. He was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for 41 years in the Technical Directives Department, having first started as a test pilot/crew chief. He graduated from Bassick High School and Parks College of St. Louis University. Mr. Fatsi served in the Air Force during the Korean War, he was a past president, choir member and devoted member of St. Dimitrie. George was the former athletic director of the Connecticut Eastern Orthodox Basketball League and was active in the Fairfield Little League. Mr. Fatsi had also belonged to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church choir and the Pan-Orthodox Choir. He attended and supported the St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Scarsdale, N.Y., and had been a local facilitator for the Orthodox Christian Mission Center of St. Augustine, Florida. In addition to Terri, his devoted wife of 45 years, George leaves behind his children, Michael D. Fatsi and wife, Dr. Polly Stephens of Richmond, Va., James Fatsi and wife, Ann Fatsi of Greenwich and Thalia Tobin and husband, Chris Tobin of Gaithersburg, Md. He was the cherished grandfather to Elias, Amelia, Noah and Thaddeus. He leaves behind a sister, Sophie Cashavelly and family. Funeral services will be held Friday (TODAY) at 11 a.m. DIRECTLY in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport (due to the construction of St. Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church of Easton) with Fr. Cornel Todeasa, Fr. George Coca and Fr. Demetrios Recachinas, officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport with full military honors. My condolences to the Fatsi family. I worked with George at Sikorsky a few years ago. I always enjoyed our meetings and discussions on helicopter programs and our kids. He was a true professional in his field.

I will miss my Papou very much. I loved going up to visit him and so did he. He used to always call me butchkie, no one else ever calls me that, and it is one of the many things that I will miss about Papou. but now he is in a better place waiting for me up there.
