Georgia Traiforos Obituary

TRAIFOROS Georgia Kapetanakis Traiforos, age 95 of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Antonios Traiforos, died peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2010 with her devoted family by her side. Mrs. Traiforos was born in Eastman, Ga., on September 5, 1915, daughter of the late Panagiota and Georgios Kapetanakis. After the death of her father, the family relocated to Greece in 1921. She attended schools in Greece and later married her husband, Antonios, in 1939 and had two children. Due to the civil strife Greece experienced at that time, the family immigrated to the USA in 1947 and settled in Manchester, N.H. In 1956, the family moved to Bridgeport. She was employed by Connecticut Bandage Mills and later retired from Remington Rand in 1970. She was a loving mother, grandmother (yiayia) and great-grandmother (great yiayia) and very proud of her family and Greek heritage. She traveled extensively with her children and grandchildren to Greece and many other places. Because of her devout faith and love of God, her dream to visit the Holy Land and walk in the footsteps of Jesus was fulfilled not only once, but twice, something that she always cherished and spoke of. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Holy Trinity Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonios in 1970; brothers Evangelos and Nicholas Kapetanakis; brother-in-law, Teodoros Traiforos; and sisters-in-law, Yiannoula Tzovanis and Despina Kapetanakis. Survivors include her son, George and wife, Lourdes Traiforos of the Philippines; a daughter, Pauline Traiforos Halkias and husband, Peter of Fairfield; grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Anne Traiforos, Nicholas and wife, Lisa Traiforos, Michael Traiforos, Sophia Halkias Hainsworth and husband, Theodore, Dean Halkias and Gina Halkias Seugling and husband, William; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Maria Kapetanakis; and many cousins, nieces and nephews in New York, Canada and Greece. Friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave., Bridgeport with burial immediately following in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Calling hours Monday after 9 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in her memory. The Commerce Hill-Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport (on the Trumbull line) is in charge of arrangements. A special note of deep gratitude and appreciation to the Carolton staff especially the South Wing. Dear Pauline & Family,
I was so sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. I have so many wonderful memories of her when we would get together for coffee. May your hearts be filled with all the wonderful memories of her and may that give you a smile. God Bless you all.

God saw you getting weak,
a cure was not to be.
He put his arms around you
and whispered come to me.
Please, God, keep your arms around
her and give her special care.
Make up for all she had suffered
and all that was unfair.
Please find the softest pillow, Lord, to
rest her head upon, and put a kiss upon
her cheek and tell her who it’s from.
