Geraldine Claytor Obituary
CLAYTOR, Reverend Geraldine (Gerry) Claytor, age 65 of Bridgeport, CT entered into eternal rest on November 3, 2015 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. She was born May 22, 1950 in Macclesfield, North Carolina to the late Billie and Mary Lee Gorham. She was educated in the public schools of North Carolina and graduated from George Washington Carver High School. Her higher education was from Housatonic Community College, Bridgeport, CT where she earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 1968, she met the love of her life, The Apostle Benny Claytor. They married in July 1970 and this union was blessed with one daughter, "Bennyta." In 1977, Rev. Gerry and Apostle Benny started Claytor's Ministry, also called, House of Prayer and Deliverance For All People, Inc., where they were the pastors for 28 years. Rev. Gerry Claytor retired from the Board of Education. Her last assignment was at Longfellow School as a Home School Coordinator/Parent Liaison. She was a community activist for over 35 years in the city of Bridgeport and received many awards. In 2009, Rev. Gerry Claytor founded Feed The People Food Pantry at the Gary Crooks Center near PT Barnum Housing Complex. The mission of this pantry is to provide emergency food, counseling and referrals to individuals and families of PT Barnum Housing Complex and other families who find themselves in a crisis situation. She leaves to cherish her memories: three lovely daughters, Bennyta Claytor Thompson (Vernon, Jr.), Rev. Kim L. Cotten (Vance), and Robin Davis; one son, Benny Gibson and one grandson, Tim Davis; three sisters, Alice Gorham-Wiggins, Bpt., Ernestine Davis (Willie) and Sherrie Gorham, NC; two brothers, Albert Gorham and Vance Gorham, NC; and a host of relatives and friends. A viewing for friends and the community will be Wednesday, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Cathedral of The Holy Spirit, 729 Union Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. The funeral will begin at 7 p.m. with the Overseer-Elect Kenneth H. Moales, Jr. officiating the service. There will be private family time from 6 – 7 PM. Morton's Mortuary, 25 Margaret E. Geraldine was a special agent given to us by God for a short time, to help straighten out the crisis in a Town called Bpt. She was a light in the midst of darkness. There are no words to describe what a loss to Bridgeport her death is. I remember assisting her with coat donations to the needy and how much love people had for her-myself included. I will miss my dear friend. Take comfort in knowing she is smiling that beautiful smile down on us from heaven. My sincere condolences to her family.
