Gregory Doyle Obituary

DOYLE Gregory F. Doyle Jr., age 87, of Milford and Naples, Fla., beloved husband of 59 years to Dorothy Kitlas Doyle, died on Thursday, November 10, 2005, at St. Vincent"s Medical Center, lovingly surrounded by his family. Gregg was born in Bridgeport, on August 11, 1918, to the late Gregory F. Sr. and Katherine Kiley Doyle and was a Milford resident for 56 years and a winter resident of Naples, Fla., for 25 years. After his marriage, both Gregg and his wife, Dorothy, established the Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home in Milford and the Lieberum, Heaphy and Doyle Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Gregg was a graduate of Central High School and president of the Class of 1936. He attended St. Thomas Seminary before entering the U.S. Army where he served in the Philippines during World War II. Gregg was a graduate of both Kansas State University and the McAllister School of Embalming where he was president of the Class of 1946. He was an active parishioner of St. Ann"s Church, Milford for 56 years where he was involved in the St. Ann"s 50+ Club, St. Ann"s Men"s League, The Home School Association and he especially enjoyed his involvement in the CYO in his earlier years. Gregg was actively involved in the Democratic Town Committee and was a member of the Milford Board of Tax Review for many years. He was past president of the Devon Lions Club and district governor, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Tinto Council 47, a fourth degree member of the Rt. Rev. John H. Anderson Assembly, a member of the D.A.V. VFW post 7788, the Bridgeport Ancient Order of Hibernians, a board member of Catholic Charities and a member of the board of trustees of the Milford Bank. Gregg was a member of the former Algonquin Club in Bridgeport. He was an avid golfer and a member of Racebrook Country Club and Wyndemere Country Club in Florida and a former member of Grassy Hills Country Club. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Dorothy, include three sons, Dr. Gregory F. Doyle III and his wife, Susan Coan, of Leydon, Mass., Conan J. Doyle and his wife, Mary Kate Halpin and their children, Jack and Lorena Halpin-Doyle of Dublin, Ireland and Kerry Doyle of Cambridge, Mass.; two daughters, Colleen Doyle Britt and her husband, William J. Britt and their children, Kiley, Adam and Moriah Britt and Dody Wiltsie Wentz and her husband, Michael and children, Devin and Adrienne Wiltsie; a sister, Claire E. Cummings of Stratford; and a niece, Doreen Stoecklin of Windsor; Gregg was predeceased by a nephew, Gary J. Cummings. Friends are invited to go directly to St. Ann"s Church, Milford to attend the funeral on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Sunday 2 to 8 p.m. in the Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gregg"s memory to the Angels Fund,c/o St. Ann"s School, 64 Ridge Street, Milford, CT 06460.
