Ingrid Mrusek Obituary

Ingrid Mrusek
Ingrid Mrusek, passed away on March 25, 2022 at the age of 87. Ingrid was born on March 23, 1935 in Gross Gerau, Germany to Adam and Elli Gescheidle. Her family owned and operated the local movie theater in Gross Gerau, sparking her passion for movies and the arts at an early age. Ingrid lived through World War II in Germany as a child, and during the War she lost her father, and the family's home and theater were destroyed. She overcame these early losses with personal strength and resolve which she continued to exhibit throughout her life. She was educated in Frankfurt, Germany, and in 1955 she attended Pittman College, London, England. Ingrid married Ronald Mrusek, who was a member of the US Air Force, stationed in Germany. After moving to America, Ingrid and Ronald were eventually transferred to Otis Air Force Base, Falmouth, Massachusetts. Ingrid's mother (Omi) also moved to America shortly thereafter, and played a pivotal role in helping Ingrid raise her children.
Ingrid, who became a US Citizen in 1963, always demonstrated a strong work ethic, and had a natural aptitude for numbers and finance. After a divorce, Ingrid started her career as the owner of The Falmouth Bookkeeping Service located on Depot Avenue, Falmouth. After a few years she then opened La Scala / Golden Swan Restaurant on Main Street which she successfully operated for 27 years. The Golden Swan was a wonderful gathering spot for the locals. The elegant atmosphere and fine dining experience reflected Ingrid's attention to detail. The staff of the Golden Swan was truly an extended family, and they continued their close relationships for years. Ingrid was unselfish with her time, always willing to listen, guide and laugh with her staff. She was referred to as, "Miss Ingrid", by all who knew and loved her. After the sale of her restaurant, Ingrid moved to North Conway, NH and continued in the hospitality industry for 7 years at the White Mountain Hotel. Ingrid enjoyed the Falmouth Beaches and could be spotted often at the end of Elm Road. She was committed to preserving her German Traditions at the holidays, always making the family celebrations magical. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at Foxwoods Resort.
Ingrid was a devoted mother, who took time from her busy schedule to encourage and support her children to follow their dreams. She is survived by her three children, Adel Hollum and her husband Eddie, of North Conway, NH, Roger Mrusek and his wife Andrea, of Red Bank, NJ, and Heidi Mrusek and boyfriend Jonathan Spodnick, of Stratford, CT. Ingrid is also survived by her four grandchildren, Michael Hollum, Kristen Hollum, Alex Mrusek and Ellie Mrusek, whom she loved very much.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass to be celebrated by the Rev. Nicholas Pavia at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Road, Stratford, CT on Saturday April 2nd, at 10:30 am. A Memorial Mass and a Celebration of Life will be held in Falmouth, MA later this Spring with details to be published. Donations in her memory may be made to Historic Highfield, Inc., or the American Heart Association.

I know I've said this before but it's never enough. I admired Ingrid from the first (when Adel and I were 7 and next door neighbors), she was so strong and motivated and such a force. I am honored to have known her and memories living next door are so clear and happy, with Omi, Ingrid, Adel, Roger, and Heidi. I loved her restaurant, how smart she was, and how kind she always was to me and our family. God speed, Ingrid, you deserve rest and relaxation. xoxo Michele

dear Family, our friend Solange informed me of Ingrid's passing. Many, many memories flood my mind - of those years employed, of friendships made, of Ingrid's generosity to her staff, and her so apparent devotion to her mother and children. I hope it will comfort you to know my thoughts are sent your way. Those who were around her can only but CHERISH her person, as I know YOU, the family, do. Sincerest condolences.

We are so saddened by Ingrid´s passing as she was a beloved mother and grandmother to our family. Always a class act, she was someone that we looked up to for her strength, independence, and determination and counted on for her love and support. Family holidays with Ingrid will surely be missed...whether it was her annual birthday phone calls where she would sing to you Happy Birthday in its entirety or gathering for the holidays where she passed down her German traditions, she always made them so special for us all. We hope that she is at peace, surrounded by loved ones from the past, with a cigarette, glass of wine, and scratching off a big winning ticket. Although she has passed, the mark she left on our family will live on for generations to come. "Love you big time" Miss Ingrid.

Miss. Ingrid was a wonderful role model and grandmother to my brother and I. She was a thoughtful and strong woman who always knew how to put a smile on someone´s face. Miss. Ingrid will truly be missed but will continue to be loved by so many.
